Breakout Boost plus

One of early games I remember playing as a child was Breakout. Fast forward to 2012, and Atari has blessed us with the release of Breakout Boost+. This is quite simply the best Breakout game I have ever played Hands down. Using a little paddle to bounce a ball towards blocks of varying colors has never been more fun.

The various colors of the blocks in Breakout Boost+ can tell us how they will react to the ball. Well that is when you have only one ball. Breakout Boost+ can handle ten, fifteen (maybe more) at the same time. My poor brain could not keep up, but that is a completely different story. The variety of the levels in Breakout Boost+ is awesome. Atari put the blocks in so many interesting different combinations.

The first thing that hit me about Breakout Boost+ is how good the music is. I knew immediately I was in the presence of one of the great ones. I do not say that lightly. The special effect sounds work masterfully for this hand held title. I knew when I lost a ball, got a power-up, or scored some extra points. The music enhances the entire mood of this iPhone/iPod Touch game in a way that draws the player in.

There are currently one hundred levels in Breakout Boost+. This only costs ninety-nine cents. They start easy and get more difficult as the player progresses. Levels are broken out by twenty-five at a time into worlds. Gamers can compare their scores to others on leaderboards, and try and improve their standing.

I normally have problems with controls on iPhone/iPod Touch games. There is something about having your finger on the screen that blocks the view. For some reason I can't see through my own finger. Breakout Boost+ solves this problem masterfully. Your finger goes below the paddle. That way we can still see where the paddle is. Atari knows what they are doing, and this is just another area that proves it.

Breakout Boost+ teaches us about angles. If I bounce the ball off this surface at this angle, I can learn where it will go. The power-ups in Breakout Boost+ can certainly shake things up. But they always help the player complete the level quicker. Breakout Boost+ is one of the best games I have played all year long - on any platform. Breakout Boost+ earns our rarely given seal of approval.
