Babes in Toyland

They don't make movies like they used to. That was the first thought that came to mind as I was watching Babes in Toyland on Blu-ray. The singing and dancing displays a variety of talent. The connection to Mother Goose and children's poems is clearly evident early on.

Babes in Toyland harkens back to a day when people were more patient in relationships. Things like kissing were for engaged couples, and even the marriage ceremony itself. The bad guy is out to get the girl because she will inherit wealth when she gets married. She only wants to get married for love. The evil Barnaby has a variety of schemes to steal her away.

Babes in Toyland looks fantastic on Blu-ray. The method of making inanimate objects come to life is of the older variety. In fact it can be a bit bouncy and disconnected. But that just shows how much technology has improved. The attire choices of the characters in Babes in Toyland are fantastic. There are some dance scenes where we see some of the women's bloomers.

Babes in Toyland contains some mild violence in the form of toys attacking the dastardly Barnaby. He also uses a toy to attack them in return. Tom is also hit on the head by a hammer on a couple of occurrences. The sword fight shows some peril. The same goes for the shrinking.

Babes in Toyland does not contain any bonus features to speak of. It brings this movie to Blu-ray. The movie is entertaining enough for families to enjoy multiple times. The ending of Babes in Toyland is fantastic, and brings my thoughts back to how they do not make movies like they used to.

The good news is Disney brought Babes in Toyland to this century on Blu-ray. I enjoyed the singing and dancing in this film. It reminds me so many of the things our culture has lost over the decades. Maybe there will be a strong return to traditional values thanks to movies like Babes in Toyland.
