WarioWare DIY

My first born son and I were discussing WarioWare games, and it dawned on me that Family Friendly Gaming had not reviewed WarioWare D.I.Y. as of yet. So I purchased a copy, and started to play it. WarioWare D.I.Y. follows the Nintendo model of recent years flawlessly. Play the game a little bit each and every single day. WarioWare D.I.Y. adds new stuff for the player for many days. This Nintendo DS game contains microgames. They only last for a few seconds, and players must be on their toes to succeed. At least the first time they try one.

The graphics are a mixed bag for WarioWare D.I.Y. on the DS. There are many bright colors, and homage paid to past video games. There are also some rude images in this hand held video game. An example would be having a finger pick a nose. There are also some microgames that contain low levels of violence as well. I am a little surprised that WarioWare D.I.Y. got an ‘E’ for Everyone rating instead of the ‘E10+’ rating.

The music in WarioWare D.I.Y. is infectious. It flows masterfully with the urgent rush there is in quickly identifying what to do in each microgame. There are also a few rude sound effects in this hand held video game. Bear in mind we are talking about some in over seventy.

WarioWare D.I.Y. includes a lot of content all around the game. Playing microgames is part of the fun of this Nintendo DS title. There are also comics, create your own, share, and more. I purchased WarioWare D.I.Y. for around fifteen dollars (including shipping and handling) from a small business. I feel that I got my moneys worth, and I will let my oldest son play this game. I do not see this game being appropriate for our youngest son though (editor: 6 years old at the time this review was written).

There is a real good news bad news going on for the game play in WarioWare D.I.Y. on the DS. Games control the same way every single time, and the touch screen is used heavily. I ran into some microgames that I could not figure out. I would play them over and over again, and eventually figure it out. Once I had it figured out, then I could breeze through that microgame every single time.

WarioWare D.I.Y. teaches quick thinking, and fast response time. I suppose it could also teach a lack of patience. I do think that Nintendo is on the right path with games like WarioWare D.I.Y. on the DS. Some cleaner content for families could go a very long way to having this game become a mega success. I appreciate the plethora of creativity that has gone into this hand held video game. Sequels would definitely be appreciated.
