Walkabout Journeys

There are days here at Family Friendly Gaming I wonder what I have gotten myself into. I play some games that make me scratch my head. I play others that make me marvel at all the creative minds out there. Walkabout Journeys is a great example of a creative mind. Players take a group of characters from start to finish. Nothing novel about that right? Well the levels rotate completely around.

The floor becomes the ceiling in Walkabout Journeys. A wall becomes the floor as well. Walkabout Journeys is kind enough to ease us into this transition, and explain it along the way. The group of characters we are guiding remind me of the Mad Hatter for some reason. They are definitely odd, and that is the nicest way I can describe them.

The music in Walkabout Journeys is fantastic. It repeats and gets stuck in the head. I just hope I do not wake up in the middle of the night with this song playing in my mind. The text in Walkabout Journeys reinforces that Mad Hatter statement from before. Characters can fall to their death - which is almost always off screen.

Some of the images in Walkabout Journeys can be dark. And I mean that in a tonal way only. There are four seasons in Walkabout Journeys. Each of the seasons contains four levels. So that brings the grand total to a whopping sixteen levels. Sort of light for ninety-nine cents in my opinion. Walkabout Journeys is an interesting experience though.

Walkabout Journeys earns points for being very original. There are numerous ways players can control the game. I prefer rotating the screen around. Although it was always strange after completing a level. Since I may be looking at a menu screen sideways or upside down. This brought a chuckle from me. I like the ideas in Walkabout Journeys, and hope to see updates and future releases from this company.
