Transformers Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition
SCORE: 60
Activision used an interesting tactic this summer with the release of the movie tie-in games for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. TF: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition is 18 levels of battling good versus evil, in a prequel of sorts to the summer blockbuster from Michael Bay. While the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles received a full version of TF: Dark of the Moon, I feel the Wii gamers got two-thirds of a game.
What do I mean? The Wii and 3DS (reviewed by Paul) received TF: Dark of the Moon “Stealth Force” Edition. Stealth Force is a hybrid of robot and vehicle modes that provides additional firepower and defenses – and takes the place of robot mode. That’s right, no robot mode in a Transformers game. Instead, the gamer gets vehicle mode and “supped-up” vehicle mode.
While Stealth Force works fairly well in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, it falls short in TF: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition on the Wii. The main reason it does not work is the sloppy controls. The control scheme is not user friendly and takes far too long to get comfortable with. And vehicle was not much better. Instead of a throttle button, the analog stick on the Nunchuk controller was used for steering and acceleration. I never felt like I was in control of my vehicle/character.
The presentation and graphics were decent for the Wii, but I always got a feeling of being under-whelmed. The voice acting was good, as it was provided by most of the same actors from the movie franchise. This gave the game a sense of belonging in the Transformers universe, but still could not save TF: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition from mediocrity. And that brings us back to not having a robot mode in a Transformers game. As a life-long Transformers fan, I was not able to connect with TF: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition because it really did not have transformers in it. The characters were shown in their robot form in cut scenes, but not being able to use them cheapened the game and caused me to loose interest.
Lastly, the gameplay
was very repetitive and provided little to no reason to return for more.
Younger gamers may find the game entertaining due to the action
sequences, but it offers little more. If choosing TF: Dark of the Moon
Stealth Force Edition, things such good versus evil and perseverance in
tough times. As much as I want to be able to find good things within TF:
Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition, it is too hard for me to get
past poor controls and…no robot mode.
