Stardrone

Having you ever heard the phrase: "seeing is believing?" Well in terms of Stardrone: "playing is believing." This downloadable Playstation 3 video game that works with Move is a strange hybrid. Players have a star that they shoot out into the level, then grapple on to certain other stars to swing around. I swung around and around in circles, or would use one to alter my trajectory for just a second. The possibilities were mind boggling.

The visuals in Stardrone are galactic. I felt like I was controlling a star, and the offsetting colors are fantastic. The special effects when a level is complete are psychedelic. They mesmerized me until I had to go to the next level. The player can bash things, and there are enemy characters who try to get in the way. Getting enough stars will grant the player the power to destroy them. There are walls that are completely covered in spikes, and hitting them causes your twinkly star to explode. That means no psychedelic colors.

The music in Stardrone really pumped me up. I started playing this game at the end of a long day. I was completely exhausted, but I needed to start playing this home console game. A few minutes of the music, and the game, and I was wide awake. Stardrone is better than caffeine in that regard. Although to be fair I am addicted to caffeine and not addicted to Stardrone.

We were provided a reviewable copy of Stardrone. There are just over fifty levels, and leaderboards. Stardrone does grant the player different trophies for achievements. For the price I feel there should have been more levels. This is the one area of Stardrone that I feel it lacking just a bit. I actually expected twice as many levels. Especially when so many of them are so easy.

I actually beat a couple of levels before I even understood I was supposed to grappling. How dense am I? There is a tutorial in Stardrone that explains how to play. But ya'll know me, I won't look at those things unless I am stuck, or after I have finished the game. The ingenuity behind this game is astounding. I am very appreciative of their creativity. There are a few levels that are very difficult. Most of them are pretty easy though. I felt like I was swinging around like a monkey while playing Stardrone. Which for me brings up happy thoughts. I am not sure about you.

There are a couple of interesting concepts in Stardrone. The first is sling shooting oneself towards a particular goal. The other is using different items to adjust the flight angle. Stardrone is very forgiving (unless you hit those spiked walls) in terms of how it controls. I found this game to be very approachable. Smashing through various items is a part of the game, but it is a small part. I hope there are sequels to Stardrone in the future.
