Spider Jack

The essence of Spider Jack is a spider trying to get to the fly. The fly is trapped on a web, so you do not need to catch it first. The catch is the spider is not in the same place as the web. Getting there will require spinning a line, and cutting it at certain times. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Spider Jack on the IPhone/iPod Touch.

The graphics in Spider Jack range depending on the world you are playing in. The spider gets a little turkey graphic every single time he gets the fly. Your spider can find electricity which is a very bad thing. He gets turned into a crispy critter that twitches a few times before falling off the screen to his charred demise. That is the main graphic that may raise eyebrows for families. I can tell it was meant to be humorous.

The music in Spider Jack fits the theme of this game. In fact it weaves a nice little web. Yes I meant to use that pun. The special effect sounds enhance this game in a couple of ways. The most notable is the electrical charge. I enjoyed the celebration sound of the spider catching the fly. You know to be honest I am not that fond of flies, and celebrate when a spider catches one. So Spider Jack is an app that is right up my alley.

There are enough levels in Spider Jack to warrant the ninety-nine cent cost. The game also states more will be coming soon. I like the concept of how this game plays, and the enchilada it is wrapped in. Spiders in real life are just as acrobatic as the one in Spider Jack. Certain levels warrant some thought, whereas others will have to be replayed to beat them.

Spider Jack starts in one place, and touching certain orbs will have him throw a line. Depending on where he is will determine if he swings or just pulls himself up. Cutting that line will make the spider drop. Certain levels require speed to get to the right place at the right time. Others require some careful planning. I had fun playing Spider Jack, although it felt a little short to me.

I learned about angles and trajectories in Spider Jack. I also learned about the speed of swinging, and how to plan a fall from a swing. Spider Jack also taught me to respect spiders, and let them eat those flies. Spider Jack has some character in it that will appeal to school age children and older.
