Smallville Season Nine

Smallville Season Nine does a lot of interesting things, but continues many of its previous problems. Metallo, Hawkman, Dr Fate, Zod and more play pivotal roles in Smallville Season Nine. Kal-el wears his crest, and is now just the blur. He wears mainly black, and is so fast that he can avoid almost all detection. Checkmate poses a threat this season, but not exactly a believable one. His fellow Kryptonians are the biggest threat to Clark. The liberties this show takes with the franchise is absolutely astounding to me. Jimmy Olsen is still dead, and so is Lex. Tess knows Clark’s identity, and her numerous allegiances completely confuse me.

Smallville Season Nine is not for children. There are some graphic disgusting, gory scenes that will frighten children. Some of them are so disgusting and bloody that I could not eat for a few hours. There is violence in Smallville Season Nine, but very little death. Hawkman looks awesome, and is played by a wonderful Stargate actor. He is amazing in that role, and one of the stand out stars this season.

You know what is really lame about Smallville Season Nine? Having to tell my kids not to repeat certain words. This happens multiple times every single episode. I do not understand why Smallville Season Nine is not family friendly. Kids love Superman, and they want to see shows about him. He is a Christ like figure that saves those in need. Yet this show continues to alienate a large portion of the would be audience. There are few stand out songs in Smallville Season Nine.

There are a few extras in Smallville Season Nine that interested me for a few minutes. There is only one show in this entire season that I ever felt that watching again. That was the JSA episode. The storyline meanders around, but does flow in a specific direction. Watching episodes out of order makes you miss something of importance.

The storylines in Smallville Season Nine are slightly better than the previous season. The level of deception among even friends continues to be extremely high. Everyone does what they feel is best, and they do not care who gets hurt. Tess continues to be a weak character that needs to go. This show is missing out with Lex Luthor not in the picture. The numerous issues with continuity have become very messed up. A Zod clone, Metallo, Martha Kent dating Perry White, etc.

Some of the most disturbing parts of Smallville Season Nine is how cheap relationships are shown to be. There is one issue where a traditional woman is essentially mocked. This is not progress by Hollywood, but hate. Reincarnation is touched upon this season, and alcohol flows freely for some characters. Self loathing is another topic that is addressed as well.
