Sheeple Chase
SCORE: 77
The cool thing about the games on the
iPhone/iPod Touch is many of them do not take themselves too seriously.
Sheeple Chase is a perfect example of this. The player races against
pigs. You race with a sheep. The goal is to beat them to the end before
the gate closes. The last racer is left out. So you do not need to place
first, which is a really good thing.
The art style in Sheeple Chase is cute with a little attitude. The pigs
think they are all that and a bag of apples. Play the game and you will
get the apple reference. You can bump into the pigs, as well as other
objects. That will only slow you down. The same thing happens if you run
through water, run into a tractor or other such objects. The details are
okay in Sheeple Chase, there are other apps that have better details.
The music in Sheeple Chase is joyful in a way that makes me smile. I
found myself enjoying the various special effect sounds, especially when
I ran through a rainbow. Skidding sounds were not as pleasant. What made
skidding worse is it really slows you sheep down. There is some minor
smack talking as the pigs taunt you.
Races are over extremely fast, and there are not a lot of them. Family
Friendly Gaming was given a download code, and this game sells for
ninety-nine cents. With that said I would expect some more races to make
it worth the price. The game does claim there will be more race circuits
coming in the future. So maybe wait a bit. Sheeple Chase does include a
track editor, and a sharing feature. Note: The track-sharing
feature is not available on the iPod 1G or the iPhone 2G.
The biggest problem with Sheeple Chase is the controls. They are way too
loose. It is very easy to skid, and lose momentum. Do that a couple of
times, and you will not place. Sheeple Chase does allow for touch
controls or tilt controls. It is more difficult to get speed going in
tilt controls, but the touch controls always starts your player in last
place. I flew threw many races in Sheeple Chase, but a few took numerous
attempts to defeat. I can see where less experienced gamers would get
frustrated.
The main lesson in Sheeple Chase is to get there first. Beat your
competition, and win. Players do this with quick reflexes, and
impressive hand eye coordination. Sheep racing pigs, penguins, ostriches
and more is a little on the odd side, but that is where the humor comes
into play. I did not take Sheeple Chase too seriously. Some tweaks to
the controls could make a sequel a real winner.
