SOS Penguins!
SCORE: 87
I did not know a lot about SOS Penguins!
before playing it. I had seen some pictures that looked interesting. You
have to save these penguins who are on top of these blocks. The blocks
can be squares, triangles, rectangles, and of varying sizes. The penguin
is on the top, and the structure in on an iceberg. The player must get
the penguin down to the bottom. There is a target that the player must
reach. Sounds simple enough right?
The graphics in SOS Penguins! are bright and colorful. The penguins have
limited animations, but that is okay. The blocks have different colors,
although using different colors on different sizes would have been nice.
Your penguin can fall into the water, which requires a restart - unless
the game auto restarts (which it does quite often).
The music in SOS Penguins! is surprisingly good. There are some neat
jams going while playing through the levels. I ended up taking my time
on more than one occasion just to enjoy the beats. There are some cute
special effect sounds when you beat a level as well. I did not find any
offensive sounds or language while I played SOS Penguins! on the
iPhone/iPod Touch.
SOS Penguins! includes numerous levels to complete. Some of them are
easier than others. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a copy of SOS
Penguins! to review. The game sells for nintety-nine cents, and I feel
you will get your moneys worth. The developer is also adding new levels
from time to time so the game does not end after defeating every single
level.
The controls in SOS Penguins! are generally good. You tap on an object
to make it disappear. There are some that you can not get rid of so
strategy is needed. There are two things about SOS Penguins! that bother
me. First off, I would line my penguin up, and he was falling to the
target. The game would reset. This frustrated me to no end. I was not
sure if he was falling too far, or what. The second issue is I defeated
the first screen of levels, got out of the game, and came back later. It
started me right back at the first level. I found I could go to the
level select screen and go to the right place, but the lack of keeping
track is a little annoying.
The big lesson in SOS Penguins! is to find the right balance. If I take
away from one side, the other side will move up. There is also an
underlying message of saving the animals. Technically penguins to be
exact. I had fun playing SOS Penguins!, and would love to sequels in the
future. It was a pleasure for me to play and review this app.
