Romance of Rome
SCORE: 81
When Paul told me about a download code
for Romance of Rome, I instantly thought of Cradle of Rome. I was hoping
that Romance of Rome would be a lot like that game. Unfortunately it is
a little bit different. Okay maybe more than just a little bit. Romance
of Rome starts off with a comic book where the main character sees a
woman attacked, and then gets attacked himself. Thankfully a kindly
Roman man comes to his assistance. Then you get to play the game.
Romance of Rome is an item finding game. Look around the screen and find
hidden items.
The images in Romance of Rome are very crisp and clear. There are
statues wearing togas, various animals, and different items. Most of the
items in Romance of Rome are true to the era. I questioned a few, but
this is a video game after all. One of the cool things about Romance of
Rome is getting to spend my points on accessories for my character. This
is a neat little aspect of this app.
The sounds in Romance of Rome add some drama to the game. I like the
music in Romance of Rome, especially in the comic book scenes. Since
this is based in Ancient Rome, expect certain religious elements.
Romance of Rome includes talk of the gods, and whatnot. The main goal is
for the player to collect all these artifacts to earn the heart of the
Emperor's daughter. Hence the romance part. Although ladies could be
offended that the concept of the way to our hearts is through material
things.
Romance of Rome will keep you busy for a week or two. The story is
interesting enough to warrant a look see. Family Friendly Gaming was
provided a download code for Romance of Rome. Since Romance of Rome has
not been released (at the time this review was written), the price is
not known by this reviewer. So it is difficult to weigh in on whether it
is worth it or not. There are thirty levels, seventeen locations, two
trophies to earn, and more.
I like how the main character in Romance of Rome starts on a quest of
discovery. He then decides to help others. From there it morphs into a
treasure hunt, and attempts to woo the daughter of royalty. The whole
gods aspect of Romance of Rome may be true to the era, but was not
really needed. There are also characters who are drunks, and others that
are devious. On the other side there are honorable characters who are
very helpful.
