Rocko's Modern Life Season One
SCORE: 72
Rocko is an Australian wallaby with a dog
as a pet, and an obese cow as his best friend. Each and every episode in
Rocko's Modern Life Season One contains social commentary on various
issues. Some of them you may agree with, and others you may find
offensive. The thirteen episodes on Rocko's Modern Life Season One are
split into two segments each. These segments are on different stories.
The best way to think of Rocko's Modern Life Season One in terms of
graphics is to think Ren and Stimpy. Characters have things like their
arms ripped off, and a bone sticking out. Fingers get ripped off and
blood spurts out. Various characters get electrocuted and flattened.
Rocko's Modern Life Season One takes the Looney Tunes violence and adds
some blood and gore to it. One character goes to hell, and the show
treats it like a joke.
At the start of Rocko's Modern Life Season One the voice acting is
pretty lacking. It sounds like people reading lines off the card. Later
it seems to flow better. Still at times the character's reaction does
not seem to reflect the extreme situation. This show hates just about
everything it touches. Airline travel, going to the beach, cleaning,
dating, the carnival and more. The theme song worms its way into your
brain and gets entrenched.
Rocko's Modern Life Season One contains around five hours of the
television show. Currently the two DVD set is selling for just under
seventeen US dollars. If you enjoy this television show then you will
find that to be a deal. There are not any bonus features on these two
discs. So the main replay value is rewatching the cartoon shows.
The menu screens function as the WMG expects them to. Rarely did this
reviewer agree with the social commentary in Rocko's Modern Life Season
One. It fits a certain belief system that the WMG finds to be cynical
and very negative. The characters are generally positive and helpful. Or
at least they try to help. Episodes without Heffer were a lot better in
this reviewer's opinion.
Most of the content in Rocko's Modern Life Season One is more for
adults. Take the neighbor lady trying to seduce Rocko. That is not
something children need to be exposed to. It is disgusting enough that
there are some people in this world who would try that. This reviewer
does not see that kind of content as humorous in any way or shape. Comic
books have a large role to play in Rocko's Modern Life Season One, which
brings back memories.
