Reboot Seasons 1 and 2
SCORE: 86
Shout Factory has been releasing some
interesting titles that I remember from my younger days. They have
released GI Joe, Transformers and others
that I remember fondly. Of course watching them today makes me
acknowledge their various flaws. Reboot was the first completely
computer generated animated television show, which gives it a place in
history. The technology angle of Reboot is evident to anyone who knows
the lingo. Characters like Dot, Hexadecimal, and the town of Mainframe
made me feel right at home.
Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 includes around nine hours of content. My only
advice is to avoid going on a marathon spree of the show. I found myself
really enjoying Reboot Seasons 1 & 2, but it did cause me to lose some
sleep. And others around me did not get the Reboot style of jokes that
amused me. The SRP of Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 is currently 29.93 when it is
released on March 3, 2011. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a
reviewable copy for this review close to a month in advance of launch.
The visuals in Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 improve across seasons. Animator
Zeke Norton was blazing trails with this show. Certain character models
are re-used, and the animations are stiff at first. I noticed as the
show progressed they improved, and there were different kinds of
characters, and different things tried. The emotion of the faces never
felt right to me, but then ya'll know me. Phong was one of my favorite
characters for his visuals. The games that are played inside Reboot
Seasons 1 & 2 are diverse, but are not up to current day video game
standards. I would not expect them to be though.
Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 has some very catchy tunes. Remember I said I lost
sleep while going on marathons watching Reboot Seasons 1 & 2? Well I
kept hearing the theme song in my head. It worms its way into your brain
like the virus Megabyte, and will not go away. The voice acting in
Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 is okay. The voice actors could always put more
emotion in than the animators could. At least in my opinion.
Many of the episodes in Season One can be rewatched over and over again
since they are all stand alone. Season Two contains a story arc which
needs to be watched in order. I actually enjoyed the story arc much more
personally. The audio commentaries are very interesting. Reboot Seasons
1 & 2 is a piece of history that brought a smile to my face. I really
enjoyed the technology and video game angles in this show.
I noticed improvements in Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 all the time. I really
appreciate that. It is nice to see a show start out, and consistently
get better. The story arc, and cliff hanger at the end of Season Two
showed just how good the writing had become. There are various nods to
different franchises in Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 that were pretty
interesting as well. This may surprise some of ya'll, but I miss this
show. I wish it had gone on longer than it did. And that comes from
someone who watched a few episodes when it started, and could not stand
it.
The core of Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 is the Guardian Bob. He protects his
friends, and enters the games to save the area. The user kicks off games
that if the user wins destroys an entire city block. Bob enters the
games to defeat the user, and save the locals. There is some violence,
especially in the games. Viruses are evil characters, although they can
be helpful or even honorable at times. Reboot Seasons 1 & 2 contains a
lot of creativity that I wish had been explored deeper. A shout out to
the Shout Factory for bringing this to DVD.
