Ranger Rocket
SCORE: 81
I have not played a game like Ranger
Rocket in many years. You have a spaceship that flies around the
rectangle outside. You move it inside the rectangle and it trails a line
behind it. If you can make a shape connect with the edge anywhere else
then you have gained some space. That space becomes the new edge of the
game play field. Sounds pretty easy huh? Well there are enemies that
will shoot at you, run into your line, or run into you. They can make
Ranger Rocket a very challenging game, especially in the harder
difficulties.
The graphics in Ranger Rocket are okay. There is a certain artistic
flair to them that you will either appreciate or you won't. Your ship
will explode into a puff of nothing when you take damage. This is more
frustrating than anything else because I wanted to finish off that shape
and capture some more of the field. The colors range and the evil
characters look pretty ugly. Common things like hamburgers were turned
evil. Why? To help you avoid them and a heart attack later in life.
The music in Ranger Rocket got inside my head. Normally that would be a
good thing but in this apps case it was a sore point. Let me explain the
music in Ranger Rocket is okay. It does not offend or anything. It just
reminded me of problems I was having in a certain level. Which brings up
another point. Ranger Rocket is an addictive game. It gets under your
skin and you want to keep playing it.
There are not many levels in Ranger Rocket. There are three difficulty
settings that you will want to complete. The price of this app is
ninety-nine cents so it won't break the bank. Family Friendly Gaming was
provided a download code for Ranger Rocket so we could do this review. I
think this game is worth it especially if you want some retro action.
I love the various strategies that can be performed in Ranger Rocket.
You can box in enemies to get rid of them. You can chip away at the
corners to slowly get the percentage needed to complete the level.
Ranger Rocket also gets family members thinking about building squares,
and cutting an area in half. I also learned that sometimes going for the
home run is not the wisest course of action.
I had fun playing Ranger Rocket. Now the fun was a little short lived,
but maybe a sequel will be released in the future. I think that Gamaday
has a good idea behind them that they implemented quite well. We will be
keeping our eye on them in the coming years. The dialogue of the
characters is a little cheesy, but it shows Ranger Rocket does not take
itself too seriously.
