Powerslide Penguin
SCORE: 80
The controls in Powerslide Penguin are
pretty simple. Touch your penguin, pull back, choose a direction, and
let go. Watch your penguin go sliding across the ice. The key to
Powerslide Penguin is the angles. Learning how to bounce your penguin
off the walls, and through the hallways towards the goal. The catch to
Powerslide Penguin is you only have so much time to get there. And you
only have nine launches per level.
The graphics in Powerslide Penguin are okay. The art style in this app
is not my personal liking. The main character looks a little shady to
me. His goal is to get the stolen money back. The comic book style
screens are wonderful looking. I also think there is an attempt to do
some 3D graphics in Powerslide Penguin, but it does not translate
perfectly on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Expect a lot of white in this game,
but the various items add some nice color.
The music in Powerslide Penguin is nice. It added some slide to this
game. Not electric slide, but slide all the same. I appreciated the
special effect sounds in Powerslide Penguin as well. The bumpers in
Powerslide Penguin reminded me of pinball games. Which is perfect since
that is how they act. I ran across no offensive sounds while playing
Powerslide Penguin.
There are seventy-nine levels in Powerslide Penguin. This app costs one
penny shy of a dollar. That is a fair amount of content for the price.
We were given a reviewable copy of Powerslide Penguin. I do believe that
this app is worth the price of admission. I found Powerslide Penguin to
be on the easy side until you get into the sixty levels. Then the game
takes a turn for the difficult.
There is a wonderful innovation in Powerslide Penguin. You can sling
yourself while you are still moving from the last launch. I love that,
and it adds a new dimension to this kind of a video game. I hate it when
a game makes me sit and wait for the final movement before allowing me
to perform another action. Powerslide Penguin lets you go at your own
pace. The timer and the limited number of moves gets rough in late
levels.
I learned all about angles thanks to Powerslide Penguin. Projecting out
where my penguin would go after hitting a wall is a major part of this
game. Players have to plan their moves when they are trying to avoid
explosive characters. One mistake launches your penguin towards the
screen, and you have to start the level all over again. I had fun with
this game, and enjoyed the collecting part of the game. I would like to
see sequels to this style of game in the future.
