Play Kalei

Play Kalei mixes two things in a way I would have never thought of. Play Kalei takes pictures, and a kaleidoscope. Players have to find the exact spot on the picture. This sounds easier on paper than it actually is in the app. Didn't I mention that? Play Kalei is an iPhone/iPod Touch game. It is currently selling for ninety-nine cents. Family Friendly Gaming did not have to count that high with pennies as we were provided a copy for this review.

The images in Play Kalei are crystal clear. Finding the right spot on the picture to match the kaleidoscope is not so pretty. I enjoyed the little character in Play Kalei, along with the artwork. If you get bored with the pictures in Play Kalei, then you can use the camera to take your own pictures. And then you can play with them. Which means Play Kalei needs one of the camera enabled units.

There are enough levels in Play Kalei to get your moneys worth. The ability to import your own pictures is one of the things that gives Play Kalei near unlimited replay value. As long as you enjoy the game play. Which we will get to in just a minute. There are numerous levels to unlock in this iPhone/iPod Touch game. Again you can bring in your own pictures.

The game play in Play Kalei is unique. It also takes some time to get used to. I did not really comprehend what I was supposed to be doing at first. The faster you find the right spot the higher your score will be, which equates to more stars. I did find that you have to be very close to get the level to complete in Play Kalei. There were times I was close, but not close enough. If you take too long the game will narrow the play area helping the player out. This is nice, but made me feel slightly claustrophobic.

I can find nothing morally or ethically wrong with Play Kalei. You are trying to match one kaleidoscope with another another. Most of the time based on the colors I could figure out generally where to start looking. Some pictures are more difficult than others though. I learned to look beyond what I normally see. I had fun with Play Kalei, even though it felt more like an exercise than a game. I would like to see this franchise continue on in the future.
