Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions

Namco Bandai has been a solid developer for families for some years now. They have impressed me personally with a plethora of good games for families. They also make sure to support new machines as they come out. Which is always nice for sites like Family Friendly Gaming since it gives something to cover. Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions sounds like it is two games. Technically it is six, and you could even expand that number if you wanted to. I will explain that shortly.

I played a little bit of Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions at E3 in the year of our Lord 2011 and it impressed me. To be completely transparent everything I interacted with in the Namco Bandai booth space impressed me this year. Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions requires motion from the player. In fact this is the most active I have been with a hand held game - ever!

The games in Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions are Pac-Man Tilt, Galaga 3D Impact, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Galaga Legions, Pac-Man, and Galaga. There are multiple arcade machines to play the older games like Pac-Man. The other games are extremely impressive on almost every single angle.

The graphics in Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions range. The old Pac-Man and Galaga show their age. But the new versions are amazing looking. The creativity in Galaga Legions, and Pac-Man Tilt are apparent. Pac-Man Tilt has some of my personal favorite visuals. I like it when games are loud, proud, bright and colorful. So please keep that in mind. The 3D effects in games like Galaga 3D Impact are impressive. There is shooting violence in the Galaga games. For some reason shooting these odd looking space ships did not really feel violent, especially in Galaga Legions.

Both of these franchises have distinctive sounds. Sounds that I appreciate and enjoy. There are some twists here and there but generally Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions stays true to the roots of the two franchises found. Speaking of which, there are two major franchises here in six different games. The shooting sounds never got old, which is something that has happened to me in other games with shooting.

Have I mentioned how many games are in Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions? This is insane! I was not expecting this level of content. Each game has multiple achievements that can be unlocked. It can be as easy as scoring so many points, or collecting a strawberry. But Namco Bandai did not stop there. There are unlockable levels, and leaderboards. Yes you can compare your skills to others.

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions will have you moving around while you play. Pac-Man Tilt makes you tilt the Nintendo 3DS a certain way to make it through certain parts. This adds another level to the interactivity of the game. Galaga 3D Impact will have you moving the screen all around trying to line up the enemies. It warns the player not to tilt too far, but we are human after all. I enjoyed moving things around while I played, and had a lot of fun playing Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions on the Nintendo 3DS.

There are numerous lessons in Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions. After all there are multiple games. The space shooters are about defending the earth against a horde of aliens. You can avoid the majority of the enemy craft if you choose to turn the other cheek. There are some that will have to be shot or you can not progress. Pac-Man is about clearing the area, collecting all the items, and eating the ghosts. I have often wondered how a ghost tastes. I would think pretty bad.
