Michael Phelps Push the Limit
SCORE: 78
If you have been following our coverage of
Michael Phelps Push the Limit for months you know how excited we are
about this title. Using the Kinect to simulate swimming? Get out of
here. 505 Games pulled it off better than I was expecting. You know I
have thought through the long history of video games, and there have
been few decent swimming titles out there.
Some may scoff and mock the fact that Michael Phelps is associated with
this Xbox 360 title. Others may bring up drug use and other poor
decisions. I am more interested in focusing on this game. How does it
play? What can families expect? What content could be construed as
offensive? Lord willing I will be able to answer all of those questions.
The graphics in Michael Phelps Push the Limit are a little darker than I
would like. I guess they normally go swimming at night. The details of
the human bodies are amazing. The female swimmers cover up more than the
males. Please note if you are offended by men wearing just speedos then
you will want to avoid Michael Phelps Push the Limit. Michael Phelps is
there in swim gear on the loading screens.
Michael Phelps Push the Limit will educate you on how to do the
different motions. This is done with a small window showing a person
doing it, and verbal instructions. Once you are in the race though you
have to figure it out for yourself. There are some watery effects in
Michael Phelps Push the Limit both visually and in the audio department.
These neat little touches went a long way in terms of presentation.
There are a few different options in Michael Phelps Push the Limit. The
career mode is a little short in my opinion, but can get difficult.
Leaderboards are present to see how you stack up against others. Family
Friendly Gaming as provided a reviewable copy for this review. I also
suggest taking breaks between game play sessions because Michael Phelps
Push the Limit will wear you out.
The game play in Michael Phelps Push the Limit is a mixed bag. I had no
issues with the Kinect recognizing my motions. I did run into issues
with not remembering how to do a certain stroke. The game had me sit in
the pool until I could do some motion to crawl my swimmer to the end of
the pool. The stamina bar flies away very quickly. Michael Phelps Push
the Limit starts out extremely easy and then I hit a brick wall. I went
from first to last between races.
With all of that said I did have fun playing Michael Phelps Push the
Limit. It is also a good work out. The lag between the gun, and diving
into the pool is the strangest thing I have ever seen. At first I
thought I did something wrong. I learned with patience that the game
would register it, and then eventually dive my swimmer into the pool.
I learned a few things about swimming thanks to Michael Phelps Push the
Limit. This Xbox 360 title is a very interesting game that I was blessed
to be able to play and review. I would like to see sequels in the
future, especially if a few tweaks are made. I enjoyed leveling up my
swimmer, and getting a work out. The few quirks in Michael Phelps Push
the Limit are heavily outweighed by the good portions.
