Megaman Starforce 3

Have you ever heard that the third time is the charm? On initial inspection that could be applied to Mega Man Star Force 3. This is actually the ninth game in this franchise. The Mega Man Battle Network (MMBN) franchise morphed into the Mega Man Star Force franchise. They are very similar even if there are some slight differences. Capcom continues to tweak the franchise, and I feel that Mega Man Star Force 3 is one of the better ones - at least on the Nintendo DS (editor MMBN was mainly on the Gameboy Advance). Noise is the big problem in Mega Man Star Force 3, and how certain special skills are attained. I am so glad that Capcom has dropped the collect all the battle cards. None of us play this franchise for that.

It looks like they are pushing the Nintendo DS to its limits in terms of graphics. There are a lot of great environments, graphics, and battle cards. The majority of women dress appropriately, and that is a real rare thing in the role playing game genre. Players shoot, and use various attacking cards to destroy the viruses in Mega Man Star Force 3. The viruses are the bad guys. Mega Man Star Force 3 is very clever at letting you fight certain friends by having them lose control thanks to the noise.

I really got into the music and special sound effects in Mega Man Star Force 3. Geo has now come to grips with having to fight to stop evil characters. He knows he is one of the few that can do this. He accepts help from others, and encourages working together. The bad guys want to destroy the world and start all over - so nothing really new there.

Mega Man Star Force 3 contains quite a bit of extra content. There are more difficult areas after the game has been beaten. There are side quests, numerous battle cards, upgrades, etc in this hand held video game. Up to seven players can utilize the multicard mode of this Nintendo DS game as well. I paid for this game myself and feel I got my money’s worth.

The main storyline seemed shorter to me. There seemed to be less areas, and the story flowed very predictably. In fact there was nothing in Mega Man Star Force 3 that surprised me. Maybe I have played this franchise for too long. I did have fun progressing the story and getting past difficult bosses. They can get interesting later in the game. My advice is to beef up Mega Man the best you can. Keep finding better cards and putting them in your folder.

Mega Man Star Force 3 is one of the better and safer role playing games out there. Not just the Nintendo DS, but all systems. I am happy to see Capcom continue to this franchise, and hope there are more in the future. I would love to see them go away from the two game model, and focus on just one.
