MLB 11 The Show

Spring is in the air. Few things are more exciting than those first days of Spring and knowing winter is behind us. With spring comes ice-cream, grilling and of course…Baseball. Fans of all ages enjoy the first crack of the bat and call of the umpire. That same excitement and realism of what makes baseball so important to our sports life is integrated very well in MLB 11 The Show.

Sony Computer Entertainment did an outstanding job of presenting the game of baseball in MLB in a realistic and exciting way. The graphics are very detailed and better than most PS2 sports titles. From player specific batting swings and stances, to pitching mechanics and fielding animations, SCE has covered all their bases. The menus are easy to navigate and the overall in-game presentation is top notch. My one issue with the presentation of the game is the lack of individuals in the dug-outs. When a ball is fouled off and the dug-out comes into focus it is completely empty. This is not a major issue because it does not affect gameplay, but it can be annoying when compared to the rest of the game.

The controls are rather simple and easy to learn. Experienced The Show gamers and newcomers will be able to pick-up a controller and quickly join in the fun. Pitching, batting and running the bases controls are straightforward. For example, pitches are assigned to a specific face button on the controller. Once the desired pitch has been selected, the location is determined using the analog stick and the pitch is launched toward home plate.

MLB 11 The Show has the gameplay modes you would expect, in addition to the Road to the Show mode. Fans can also enjoy true sports rivalries in the rivalry mode. MLB 11 The Show is a great game for baseball fans, sports fans and gaming fans alike. Parents can discuss competition and teamwork.

MLB 11 The Show is an enjoyable game from SCE. Baseball fans are sure to enjoy the realism and attention to detail, while casual fans and newcomers can also find it enjoyable. With the user friendly controls and detailed realism MLB 11 The Show is sure to be a home run this Spring.
