Just Dance Summer Party
SCORE: 85
Just Dance has been an amazing craze. You
probably read the news story we recently published that Just Dance 2 has
sold more than five million copies on the Wii. It is only the eighth
game to achieve that number on that system. Ubisoft knows a winning
formula and they are applying it wherever they can. I initially thought
Just Dance Summer Party might be an attempt to cash in on that success.
I was worried that they had gone to the well once too often.
The thing about Just Dance Summer Party is it has all the charm of the
previous games. This version may contain the most eclectic tracklist.
There are songs from all kinds of eras and all kinds of genres. What I
don't get in Just Dance Summer Party is the whole summer concept. I can
think of many songs that make me think of summer. None of them are in
Just Dance Summer Party. What is in here does not make me think of
summer either.
I am surprised that the ESRB missed the suggestive sexual content in
Just Dance Summer Party in some of the dance moves. Dancers wear various
outfits where their skin is changed to a color like white for example.
Some of the outfits could have used some more threads if you catch my
drift. The cool thing is the white out effect of the skin takes away the
enticement to lust factor. A couple people noted the parts of the body
they touched and how those hips were moving. The diversity of the
dancers is nice.
The background graphics in Just Dance Summer Party are amazing. I loved
seeing a dancer on a snowboard, and two people Kung Fu fighting in the
background. That same level was also done like a video game that was
being played. The amount of content going on in the backgrounds is
amazing. Ubisoft continues to grow this part of this genre in exciting
and creative ways.
The range of the music in Just Dance Summer Party is wild. I am happy to
report there is a gospel song in Just Dance Summer Party. I am beyond
excited about that. It is awesome to see something we have recommended
in review after review make it into a final retail product. Not all the
songs are good though. There is such a wide range of musical styles in
Just Dance Summer Party that there is literally something for everyone.
Which also means there are going to be songs that some are not going to
enjoy. I would advise families to look at the song list and go over the
lyrics. Make your own determination on that.
Family Friendly Gaming was provided a reviewable copy of Just Dance
Summer Party for this review. There are a few less songs in Just Dance
Summer Party than in other Just Dance games. That is a little bit of a
disappointment in my opinion. However there are some really fun songs in
this Wii game. I had not heard some of these songs in decades. The price
of Just Dance Summer Party is also lower than the other versions so you
pay less.
The dance moves in Just Dance Summer Party can actually teach you to be
a better dancer. The other cool thing is dancing will help you lose
calories, and become healthier. The dance moves are generally safe -
unless you are a Raving Rabbid. My eyes got big on some of the dance
moves because I was not sure my body could actually perform such feats.
I was pleasantly surprised that I could do them, and it felt great to
learn something new.
The front cover of Just Dance Summer Party reminds us that Just Dance 3
is coming in October of 2011. I am getting excited to see what Ubisoft
comes up with in the next iteration. We will bring ya'll as much
coverage as Ubisoft allows us to. I learned some new dance moves thanks
to this Wii game, as well as another fun way to exercise. I really
appreciate the high quality that is put into this franchise. I am eager
for the next game in the franchise.
