Jerry Rice and Nitus Dog Football
SCORE: 79
I didn't know what to expect when I was
told about Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football on the Wii. This is Dog
Football. Ignore Jerry Rice's name for a minute. This is dogs playing
football. A human throws the ball to them, and they run until another
dog tags them. Still there is something that feels strange about having
dogs play football. I found myself trying to compare Jerry Rice & Nitus
Dog Football to other games on the Wii but nothing quite fit.
Graphically Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football looks okay. The dogs show
different breeds, and the humans are a diverse cast of characters.
Albeit a little cliched. There is little to no violence in Jerry Rice &
Nitus Dog Football. Dogs stop when another one touches them. I can't
bring myself to call them tackles. Most of the game is with dogs running
for a first down and/or a touchdown. It can be confusing at times
figuring out which dog is on which team. There are highlights around
certain dogs at times which helped.
Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football is totally tongue in cheek when it comes
to the comments. Judobaby milks the entire dog theme from beginning to
end. I did not mind, in fact I found myself laughing at the mixture of
dog comments, and football comments. The music and special effect sounds
glitter as one would expect them to. The whole ARF points concept puts
Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football in the arcade style of sports games.
Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football allows four family members to enjoy this
Wii game. There are twenty dog breeds, fourteen human quarterbacks, 185
plays, and 250 prizes to earn. Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football
encourages players to beat the entire season with each of the human
quarterbacks. There is also customization of the teams, and twelve
different fields.
Did I say the twelve fields are different? Yes they are, and then some.
There are animals like penguins and cows that will get in your way.
There are places that tricks can be performed. Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog
Football is part football, and part doggie obstacle course. Those
obstacle portions are what grant ARF points. Those can be earned when a
touchdown is scored.
I ran into issues with the controls of Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football.
They seem pretty simple but I had problems getting things like running
working. So I wound up passing all the time. I had less issues with the
passing. I found that running in a zig zag pattern got me huge gains.
Many times I got right into the end zone. The whole ARF points is really
needed to win in this game because the computer racked them up, and
dominated me - based on that alone. Defense was also pretty spotting in
my opinion. I am not fond of pointing to where I want the dogs to go. It
felt like I was not in complete control of this Wii game.
At the end of the day Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football is a fun little
arcade style game that creates an entirely new niche. I have never
played a game like this one before. It can be difficult to classify
because of how different it is. Judobaby tried many different things and
pulled off the majority of them. I only have one question left - where
is a video game headlining Steve Largent?
