Islands of Wakfu

Islands of Wakfu is an action/adventure game from Ankama Studio. The game is set in the same universe as two online games from Ankama, DOFUS and Wakfu. The game focuses on the two main characters: Nora, the young Eliatrope, and her brother dragon, Efrim. There is also a third playable character that is used for finding items and secret passages. The object of the game is to please the goddess. You are instructed to make sacrifices to the goddess. The game also focuses on all being one with nature and so forth.

The game allows you to switch between Nora and Efrim  at the press of a button. Nora is the female character and her specialty is close hand-to-hand combat. While her brother, Efrim, is a flying dragon. He serves as more a shooter type character. The game tells us that the characters are not only two individuals, but also one in the same. This universal view is present throughout the game.

This games graphics are top notch. Environments are rich with color and depth. The character models are finely detailed. However, some of the female characters are not dressed appropriately. It is a shame that a game that has so much to offer in gameplay mechanics and graphical display can be compromised by the deity worship, goddess focus and inappropriate attire.

Islands of Wakfu has the foundation of what is great gaming development, and I give Ankama credit for that. However, there is little here with Islands of Wakfu to recommend to our readers here at FFG. I respect the programmers and developers at Ankama for the work on the technical aspect of the game, but the theme of the game is too much to overcome.
