Ikari Warriors
SCORE: 59
A long, long time ago in a state far, far
away I played Ikari Warriors. Now we are in the year of our Lord 2011
and Ikari Warriors has been released on the Playstation Minis. This
allows gamers to enjoy this old arcade game on the Playstation 3, and
Playstation Portable (PSP). I remember running forward, shooting
everything in sight, and then getting into a tank and totally
dominating. Ikari Warriors was best played with a friend.
In the years since I last played Ikari Warriors the industry has
improved. The graphics in Ikari Warriors are lacking. The characters are
small, and there is a lot of shooting. In fact about all you do in Ikari
Warriors is shoot the guys coming at you. They flash and vanish after
being killed. Tanks and grenades have an explosive result. The graphics
are so small in Ikari Warriors that it can be difficult to see incoming
fire.
Ikari Warriors was released in the arcade in 1986. The two main Rambo
styled characters are not wearing shirts. The sounds in Ikari Warriors
are as old as the graphics. The music is okay, but it really shows its
age. Ikari Warriors does an average job of giving the player the war
sounds. The more you shoot the more you will hear. There are numerous
enemy warriors to shoot. I wonder at times why they lined themselves up
to be shot.
The price of Ikari Warriors is very low. Family Friendly Gaming was
provided a download code for this review down memory lane. Ikari
Warriors is not an easy game. There are various modes for players. I
found the continuation system is needed because Ikari Warriors is one
tough game. It was tough in the arcade, but that was because they wanted
you to put in another quarter.
The controls in Ikari Warriors can take some getting used to. I had
issues shooting in different directions while running in others. I also
had to get so close to enemies to shoot them. This led to more one hit
deaths than I can count. I had some fun remembering this game. I am
amazed at how far the video game industry has progressed. We do not need
violent content to have fun anymore which is wonderful.
I remember a patch from the Air Force: "Kill them all, let God sort them
out." I bring that up because that is the lesson I got from Ikari
Warriors. Killing everything in sight makes Ikari Warriors an easier
game to play. Dodging all the incoming fire makes this game nearly
impossible. Ikari Warriors is a piece of video game history that we can
learn from.
