Hulk Hogans Main Event
SCORE: 61
When I was younger I wanted to be a
professional wrestler. There were no schools in my area for that, so I
went about my life. I never gave up on the concept of becoming a pro
wrestler though. That was until I found out how much pain they go
through. The low life expectancy, high drug and alcohol use. Once I
learned of those things I decided that being a magazine editor was just
fine.
I played Hulk Hogan's Main Event at E3 2011, and honestly was not very
impressed. All I saw were some mini games on the Kinect based around
professional wrestling. I was assured it would be a complete wrestling
game. Then Mr Hogan made an appearance, and he was less than cordial. My
opinion of him as a person fell a few degrees. Yes he has star power,
and appeal. But the video game critics are not going to give you pass
based on that alone.
Majesco Entertainment is known for their slam dunk home run games. The
Mama games have been huge. Majesco Entertainment is one of three
companies to publish a game that earned a perfect score here at Family
Friendly Gaming. The video game wrestling genre could use some
competition too. So I had some high hopes for Hulk Hogan's Main Event on
the Xbox 360.
The Teen rated is earned in Hulk Hogan's Main Event from the violence.
The player participates in various mini games like punching, or kicking
their opponent. If you can graduate then you can do things like trip,
and clothesline them. There are also weapons like chairs used to bash
them in over the head. The characters models have a comic book feel to
them. Which is exactly what is shown between the mini games. Although at
times I wondered why the same thing was being shown.
The announcer has a great voice, and sometimes Hulk will even throw out
a word of encouragement. The placement of this can be off though. I was
about ready to lose a mini game and he told me something about how good
I was doing. I almost wondered if the game is being sarcastic or not.
The music is upbeat, exciting, and gets the blood pumping. Which is a
shame in some ways because everything in Hulk Hogan's Main Event is
timing. Like see a little picture of Hogan doing a pose and mimic it.
Two players can get a work out together playing Hulk Hogan's Main Event.
There are also leaderboards for those who like to see where they rate.
Hulk Hogan's Main Event contains unlockables as the players progress
through the career mode. I was shocked that this game did not start out
with a long hair option. My hair is longer than the starting choices.
I could give the violence a pass, and expect it to get straight to class
if the controls were good. I ran into problem after problem with the
controls. The clothesline mini game gave me fits. I would duck and my
guy would run right into it. I ducked so low the Kinect thought I had
left the game play area. Jumping was another one. Thing is some of the
mini games in Hulk Hogan's Main Event control great. Others made me want
to go and do something violent. It is possible the bashing people's
faces in - in a video game is also partially to blame.
The lesson in Hulk Hogan's Main Event is to rise to the top. This is
done with hard work and believing in yourself. Do you think Hulk Hogan
would be endorsing so many products if he did not believe in himself? I
wish Hulk Hogan's Main Event on the Xbox 360 was living the same
American dream. There are also lessons in getting them before they get
you, and recognizing their pattern so you can defeat them.
What is sad about Hulk Hogan's Main Event is the production value is
very high. I wish there were better things to report on this home
console game. For me it was a major disappointment.
