I love Easter time. I meditate on Jesus
dying on the cross for all of our sins, and being raised on the third
day. I think about the empty tomb, and the implications it means to all
of our lives. It is one of those special times of the year. Dentist
enjoy this time of year because so many people indulge in candies that
create cavities. So when a big box came into Family Friendly Gaming from
505 Games I was interested. They were kind enough to send us an Easter
basket with candies, soaps and more based on the Hop movie. Oh and there
was a Nintendo DS game in there too.
Hop has a variety of mini games in it that are replayable. The core of
this DS game is an overhead view of a third person shooter. Now you are
shooting jellybeans, marshmallows and more at the chick commandos. Which
for me felt really strange. Violence bunnies, and chicks are not three
things I would think to mix together. The details are okay in Hop, but
many of the graphics are pretty small. There are some great colors
especially in the bowling mini game.
The music fits the theme of the game. I was not bopping along while
playing Hop, but it was not irritating me either. Some of the special
effect sounds are cool. There is a mini game in Hop that is musical
based. Various locales from the movie are used in the Nintendo DS video
game. The reason we shoot the various enemies in Hop is to get them
sugar shocked.
Certain mini games in Hop are more fun than others. I noticed that this
hand held game cheats in the bowling mini game. The pins will move when
you are going for your spare. They actually hop around. I was not amused
when I realized what was happening. Finding hidden jelly beans was fun,
but I noticed they kept appearing in exactly the same places. So they
were not very challenging.
Want to know what is challenging in Hop? The shooting levels. I was
expecting more puzzle elements after reading the back of the box.
Shooting these enemies over and over again got boring. Especially when
some of them have shields, and I was having to rotate guns, and avoid
them shooting at me. It also did not seem to fit the theme of the rest
of the game in my opinion.
The biggest lesson I learned from Hop is to get them before they get me.
I also think the movie will be an interesting twist on the fake part of
Easter. Another lesson in Hop is that too much candy is bad for you.
Sure I got that in a round about way, but if you look deep enough at
this game you will see it. The final lesson I learned in Hop is hard
work, and attention to detail will help make you a famous drummer.
