Gem Smashers

Gem Smashers is a fun little Nintendo 3DS title from Red Wagon Games that has some unique aspects to it. There are three selectable characters who have differing attributes. They start a certain color and can change by hitting certain items. There are death blocks that will end your run. Re-spawning is not an issue though.

The 3D effects in Gem Smashers are okay. The graphics are bright and colorful. I like the three different animal characters in Gem Smashers. One looks like a hedgehog, another like a crab, and the final one like a chick (baby chicken). Certain blocks can be destroyed by bumping into them. Gem Smashers is a fast paced game. I had to learn how to get through certain areas without hitting certain blocks.

The music in Gem Smashers is wonderful. From the action packed levels to the main menus. I enjoyed listening to the music all over this game. The sound effects generally add to this dimension as well. I was not fond of hitting the locked door. But that was about the only sound that bothered me. The story revolves around a scientist trying to steal the earth's energy.

There are over one hundred levels in Gem Smashers across eight different worlds. Each world has a specific theme. Two players can compete in Gem Smashers to see who has mastered the game. The price of Gem Smashers is reasonable for a Nintendo 3DS title. I can see fans of puzzle games and action games enjoying Gem Smashers.

The game play in Gem Smashers is a nice mixture. I learned very quickly how to complete levels. I found myself enjoying Gem Smashers way more than I thought I would. The only down side is there seems to be unlimited continues. This means levels can be beaten eventually. Still this alleviates the frustration factor of so many other games.

The controls in Gem Smashers are generally buttons. There are touch screen controls on the main menus but no more after that. I ran into no issues controlling Gem Smashers. Color matching is one of the lessons in Gem Smashers. Family members can also learn to plan out their actions to achieve the desired results.
