Fruit Tumble

It is very common for Family Friendly Gaming to receive games in all forms before the public has access to them. I don't say that to flaunt it, just to set the stage. Fruit Tumble is one of those games. This means we have little idea what the game is about. We have little concept what kind of a game it will be. I am so glad that I decided to review Fruit Tumble on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

This little app is part monkey, and part Luxor. The kind of game where a column of round shaped objects are rolled from one place to another. Where Fruit Tumble shakes things up is the launching mechanism. There is no shooting in Fruit Tumble. Instead you tap on a monkey, and drag them to the matching fruit. The monkey is holding a fruit. There can be multiple monkeys, monkeys with more than one fruit and more.

The birds rolling the fruit, and the monkeys used to match them both look okay. The fruit in Fruit Tumble looks great. After all it is the star of this game. The special visual effects as points are calculated look good. I also like the backgrounds in Fruit Tumble. There are different worlds with different themes.

The music in Fruit Tumble is enlightening. I felt like it not only fit Fruit Tumble, but it helped me play. Something about the music in Fruit Tumble helped me concentrate. It assisted me in focusing in on where I needed to be next. There are a fair amount of levels in Fruit Tumble for the price. Levels can be replayed to earn a higher score.

The controls in Fruit Tumble work flawlessly. Grabbing a monkey and dragging him could not be easier. There is also strategy involved. Get the apples to go away, and the oranges on both sides will knock each other out. Then the grapes on both sides will come crashing together. These chains can be fun to find.

I am very thankful that I was able to play and review Fruit Tumble on the iPhone/iPod Touch. This app tweaks a well known genre in a wonderful way. I hope to see more games like this in the future. I never know what Chillingo will come up with next. Their brain storming sessions must be absolutely amazing. I say that because of the high percentage of unique ideas they bring to the market place.
