Frogger Pinball

Frogger Pinball

Have you ever looked at Frogger and thought he would make a great pinball game? Me neither. However Konami knows what they are doing, and Frogger Pinball is more fun than I thought it would be. Frogger is sort of squished inside a pinball. So sometimes I could see his face, and other times I could not. Frogger Pinball contains three pinball machines. They are Swamp, City, and Space.

Sure there are only three boards/stages (editor: however you describe them) in Frogger Pinball. But the level of detail on these three boards is astounding. The 3D effect is pretty good on the iPhone/iPod Touch 4, and iPad. Please note the web page for Frogger Pinball says it is compatible with the iPhone/iPod Touch 3, but we could not get it working on our third generation machine. Frogger Pinball includes some mild violence as vehicles and creatures (like flies) are removed thanks to the pinball.

The pinball sounds in Frogger Pinball feel very authentic. In fact I started to wonder if they ever did a real pinball table based on Frogger or not. The music in Frogger Pinball is upbeat, and friendly. I enjoyed listening to this game about as much as I did playing it. Which is something for me because normally I do not want to listen to video game sound tracks.

Konami knows what they are doing with Frogger Pinball. Players level up as they play Frogger Pinball. There are also leaderboards to compare how you are doing with the rest of the gaming population. Frogger Pinball includes power-ups and various modes. Still when you get down to it there are only three pinball machines or levels in this game. The $1.99 price feels a little steep to me for that many levels. It is my hope they release free updates with more boards. That would help with the price.

The controls in Frogger Pinball are simple. Touch the right side for the right flippers to spring into action. Touch the left side for the left set of flippers to spring into action. I even found I could save a few balls that bounced around to the left or right side by tapping there. Frogger Pinball is a really fun game to play. I enjoyed getting all the flies, and a new high score in the Swamp level. The other levels bring some interesting ideas to the table. No pun intended.

I learned how to time things just right in Frogger Pinball. I also learned angles, and how much pressure to use when launching the ball. Frogger Pinball includes all the pretty pretty lights of a real pinball table. I would love to see additional franchises make it into pinball tables. I will not name any names in this review, but I do have a few in mind.
