DrawRace 2

From time to time there are some fantastic sports games that come out that we were not expecting. DrawRace 2 from Chillingo is one such title. When I agreed to play and review DrawRace 2 on the iPad I was not expecting much. Then I started to play it. What I found is a highly polished game with massive amounts of strategy.

The concept behind DrawRace 2 is simple. Trace a path on a race track. Then watch and see if you win. Oh before I forget you do get to press a turbo button while racing. It has a gauge that grows during the race. The real strategy behind DrawRace 2 is in the turns. Players have to slow down during the curves or they risk spinning out.

The graphics in DrawRace 2 shine with astounding detail. The vehicles look fantastic, and the tracks are awesome. There are a plethora of different cars in DrawRace 2. The race tracks range dramatically. The ice roads are some of the most interesting. The menu screens show exceptional polish as well. The cars look wonderful. There are vibrant colors used in DrawRace 2 as well.

The music in DrawRace 2 fits the theme of this race game flawlessly. I enjoyed the racing sounds while running cars across the tracks. The special effect sounds like the turbo work masterfully. I found no offensive sounds while playing DrawRace 2. This game teaches players how to do new skills with some neat little videos. This visual learning is a great way of teaching.

We were provided a download code to review DrawRace 2. With that said I do believe this game is worth the price of admission. The iPad version costs a few dollars more than the iPhone/iPod Touch version. Both of them look good. The iPad does look a bit better in my opinion. There are an amazing amount of unlockables in DrawRace 2. You will get your moneys worth out of this app.

I had a few problems with a couple of the tracks in DrawRace 2. I had to learn the best speeds in certain portions of the tracks. I also had to learn when to brake. The computer controlled characters are good, but can be beaten. The difficulty curve in DrawRace 2 has a nice slope. I could easily beat early cars, but later ones were more challenging. I had fun playing DrawRace 2. In fact it is addicting to beat track after track.

Normally when I play a racing game I feel the lesson is to get to the finish line first, and to beat all your competition. DrawRace 2 has a different feel. Since you draw the path your vehicle goes it feels like finding the best path through the race track. Yes there is competition in DrawRace 2 but I never felt like that was the lesson or the goal. I hope to see more family friendly titles like this one. The most violent content is bumping into the wall when taking a corner too quickly.
