Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation

Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation is an old school role playing game that requires the player level up early, and often. The story in this Nintendo DS video game (which is the first time the United States has seen this story from the past) includes some interesting little swerves. It would not be proper to spoil it though. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a reviewable copy of this game.

The visuals in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation have been enhanced from the original version. The scrolling of the screen on the Nintendo DS is amazing. One trick is to use this in dungeons to see if a path ends in a treasure chest or not. It can save the player some time, and a battle or two. Speaking of battles, expect to get into thousands of them. Monsters vanish when they are vanquished, and the players commands equate to seeing a strike on the screen. Take a claw for example. It will show a curved attack motion on the screen, and the monster will take damage. There is some blood in this game, but much lower than most Teen rated games.

The music is classic Dragon Quest. If you are familiar with the special effect sounds from the franchise then you will be right at home in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation. This reviewer loves the level up sound. Remember you want to do that often. There are certain adult and spiritual things discussed in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation. Various demons are pretending to be things they are not, and there is a witch like character that helps the player. Priests at church talk about a goddess all the time.

The amount of content in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation will have players spending numerous hours finding it all. There are multiple characters, classes, weapons, armors, side quests, levels, items, and more in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation. The main story takes time to complete, which means you will get your money's worth. Just as long as you know what you are getting. Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation is a role playing game where progress can be slow. Methodical players are rewarded in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation.

Fans of Dragon Quest IX may not be so enthused about Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation. Why not? The pace is so much slower. Bear in mind Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation is more of an old school kind of a role playing game. Is an area, or boss too hard? Then level up, get better armor, and get better weapons. You will not breeze through Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation, and you will die numerous times while playing this story. This is not a DS game that will be beaten in a week. It may take you months. The battles are random, and the game offers hints about where to go next. A fortune teller will offer even more assistance if you are really stuck.

The first thing families need to understand about Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation is this is designed for the older members of the family. The ESRB has given this game a 'T' for Teen rating, and it is earned. There are spirtual aspects to Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation as well. Players deal with dead characters, dream characters, demons, and a goddess. The whole goddess thing makes little sense to this reviewer. It would make sense to regionalize that for America to God instead. It is one of the aspects of Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation that made this reviewer uncomfortable.

The heroes in Dragon Quest VI Realms of Revelation are on a quest to save the world. Some of the plot twists in this Nintendo DS game are what make it very memorable. Nintendo should be applauded for bringing this Square Enix (yes it was just Enix when it was originally made) video game to American audiences. It is a piece of a video game history that RPG fans have been clamoring for.
