Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I am not a fan of Tim Burton’s work, and Johnny Depp’s work has been odd most of the time. Which is why I ignored the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for so many years. I am also not a fan of remakes. Most of the time I prefer the original. With all of this going against this DVD you probably think it would instantly fail. Well to everyone’s surprise, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory passes.

The visuals in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are intense. The various special effects are great. The colors, candies, and characters are amazing. It is such a treat to see so many wonderful sites like the chocolate waterfall. The only one in the world, or so the movie tells us. There are some scary parts in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Each child disobeys their host, and winds up paying for it. What happens to them could scare children.

The music in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will get stuck in your head. The songs contain some biting humor concerning the character defects of certain children. One child is a glutton, another is spoiled thanks to wealth, another is driven to be ultra competitive, another is arrogant. The final child is just happy to be there. I find it most interesting that the best child is the one who is selfless, and cares about the well being of his family.

I purchased Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for five dollars, and feel I got my moneys worth. There are some interesting special features like becoming Oompa-Loompa, and how they turned one man into hundreds. I have already watched this film a couple of times, and can see it becoming a favorite in the coming months.

I was pleased to see Johnny Depp really tone down his strange side in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He plays the out of touch eccentric genius tycoon quite well. It is obvious he is not used to, and does not know how to relate to people. I find it interesting that the children wind up dropping off like flies. Willy Wonka has a master plan that is only fulfilled at the end. The use of the flashbacks work marvels for this movie, and really explains the Willy Wonka character as well. I had a lot of fun watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I really appreciate the lesson in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Family is important, and there is room in your life for family. Too many people put work as their top priority in life, and they neglect their families. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory teaches us how important family is. There are also minor lessons in avoiding selfishness, and gluttony.
