Cars 2

Cars 2 is just about everywhere now as the movie is being released. You have probably already read the home console review of Cars 2. The iPhone/iPod Touch version of Cars 2 is drastically different. It is a side scrolling game where you race to the finish line. You are not racing anyone, just trying to make it to the end. There are twenty-four levels in this app that costs ninety-nine cents.

The graphics in Cars 2 look really nice. The three different areas look different. The four cars in Cars 2 look really good. The collectible items look the same, and some of the same jumps are required throughout the twenty-four levels. I did not find any offensive images while playing Cars 2. Hitting too many obstacles will have the car lose a tire, and pillow smoke.

I enjoyed the music in Cars 2.It is fun, fresh, and energetic. There are also some sound bytes of the characters in Cars 2. They have some neat things to say. I enjoyed that level of interactivity. It brought something fun to the table. I did not find any offensive sounds while playing Cars 2 on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Unless you count my frustration in the last level.

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Cars 2. I am very thankful for that. I do feel that the level of content in Cars 2 is a little low for the price. Especially considering how similar many of the levels are. I will get into the controls in the next little section, but that is another issue with this app. Players can see every level in Cars 2 in a couple of hours.

There are essentially three controls in Cars 2. You can make your car jump. You can tilt left, and tilt right. Tilting can help the player get over certain obstacles without making contact. Jumping allows the player to jump over obstacles and reach higher paths. There is a double jump which is needed in most areas. I found the majority of this game to be very easy. The jumping is weird sometimes. At times I would jump high, and others not clear obstacles. This really confused me. I let our six year old try it, and he had all kinds of problems.

Cars 2 is a fun little app that capitalizes on the Disney Pixar Cars 2 franchise. The main reason to replay any level is to score higher, and get all of the stars. Cars 2 also contains connectivity to the movie in terms of watching video clips. I learned to avoid obstacles by jumping over them. I also found that at times I would not quite make a ledge, but the game would let me do a third, and sometimes fourth jump to get there. I appreciated this. I did not appreciate certain jumps near the end of the last level of the game.
