Animal Drop

Animal Drop is a free app for the iPod Touch/iPhone. I got this game for my five year old son. He adores it. The concept is extremely simple. Take the picture from the top, and drag it on top of the larger shadow of the same animal. Once that happens, the child gets to hear the sound from that animal. You know, a quack, moo, buzz, chirp, whatever that animal is. So the lessons in Animal Drop are shape recognition and animal sounds.

Kids can easily play Animal Drop thanks to the graphical familiarity. The screens look the same with one major exception. The animals, and the shadows change routinely. Not a problem because that is what keeps this app fresh. I found no graphical issues with any of the pictures in Animal Drop. The color scheme is very colorful and kids love it.

The animal sounds in Animal Drop are great. My hubby was nearby when our son was playing Animal Drop, and asked if he was watching some video on the zoo. He was very surprised to see this was an app (and a free one) on the iPod Touch. Ya’ll know how much it can take to surprise him with how many years he has been in the industry. After many of the animal sounds my son would tell me that was a dog, or that was a bee, or whatever it was. He also would laugh, and have a good time playing Animal Drop.

I have downloaded numerous free apps for children, and Animal Drop continues to be a favorite of my youngest child. He loves to play this game over and over again. He does not get tired of matching animals to their shapes. I found myself bored after eighty or so matches. I can not repeat enough times that Animal Drop is free. It was worth my time to download it.

The touch controls in Animal Drop are great. This app is very forgiving. All I had to do was get the animal close to its shadow. I know numerous puzzle games that only will snap into place when the item is right on top of the exact spot. So this is a great game for kids, and they really enjoy Animal Drop.

The lessons in Animal Drop are animal recognition, shape recognition, and sound recognition. This app does a fantastic job of it, and I hope AM Mobile Software creates sequels in the future. Animal Drop is one of those apps that impressed me so much that I wanted to review it.
