Alpha Mission
SCORE: 60
I remember Alpha
Mission from a long time ago. For me getting to play Alpha Mission on
the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable (Playstation Minis) was a
trip down memory lane. This overhead scrolling shooter has two fields of
play. There is the aerial combat, and the air to ground combat. I can
launch missiles on what is on the ground, and shoot what is coming at me
in the air. In a way Alpha Mission is twice as deadly as shooters that
only have air to air combat.
I have to be honest about my feelings when it comes to Alpha Mission. I
am a little disappointed in the graphics. My memories of this franchise
are it looked a lot better. Part of my problem is how small the graphics
are. The screen can be stretched some, but it still looks small. I had
to take off the side graphic because they were too distracting. Enemies
become a dime a dozen when blowing them up repeatedly. Honestly it gets
boring after a few areas.
Things are happening in the air and the ground at the same time.
Thankfully the game generally warns the player with a sound when a small
ball of destruction is coming your way. I kept the trigger down so the
firing sounds were sort of music to my ears. Not the kind of music I
would normally listen to but you get the picture. Blowing up things on
the ground produces an explosive sound.
SNK Playmore USA Corp included various difficulty settings for Alpha
Mission. This will add to the replay, and the cost of Alpha Mission is
really cheap. I used to spend more money than that at the arcade when I
was a kid. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code to review
Alpha Mission. I appreciate the controls in Alpha Mission, they are
fantastic. It is easy to avoid attacks, and shoot the various enemies.
This game is difficult - even on the easy settings. I still got some
enjoyment out of it.
The issue of video game violence is a thriving debate inside the
industry. I personally do not like to expose myself to too much because
I know of the studies and negative mental side effects. I also
acknowledge that different people have different tolerances. If you have
a problem with violent thoughts then Alpha Mission is a game you should
avoid. It can lead to a numbness.
