Ys The Oath in Felghana

Ys The Oath in Felghana on the Playstation Portable (PSP) is a remake of Ys III. Remakes can be fantastic things, or they can show how far a series has come. A lot of time, effort, and energy went into Ys The Oath in Felghana. Fans of the original should appreciate it. As a critic I found things to like, and things that I was not so pleased with. Patience my friends, we will get to it.

Adol and Dogi travel to the land where Dogi came from. He had been gone for eight years without a word to any of his friends back home. Adventure had called to him, so off he went. Picking up and going on an adventure is one of the appealing things of Ys The Oath in Felghana. How many of us wish we could leave all of this behind and have an adventure? Adol and Dogi get back just in time as his home town is being threatened by an evil. See, another wonderful thing about being an adventurer is you get there right when you should.

After enjoying Ys Seven, I had some real high expectations of Ys The Oath in Felghana. The graphics are smaller in Ys The Oath in Felghana, and reminded me of my time playing the original (although much better than the original). Certain areas have re-used graphics that look okay, but can get old when grinding. There is some blood and gore in Ys The Oath in Felghana. Thankfully the gore goes away quickly. There is also at least one female character busting all out in Ys The Oath in Felghana.

The music in Ys The Oath in Felghana is stellar. I enjoyed listening to it in the various areas. The range of the music in this PSP game is nice, because it can resonate with different audiences. The downside of Ys The Oath in Felghana in this section is the language. There is bad language in this hand held game. The 'T' for Teen rating is definitely earned. There is also some innuendo that adults will pick up on. Some of it is humorous. Speaking of humor there is some fun poked at the genre in this game.

Only one player can use Ys The Oath in Felghana at a time. There are various difficulty settings depending on your skills. A fair amount of unlockable content, as well as hidden items are in Ys The Oath in Felghana. This is one area where the original is limited compared to current hack and slash role playing games. This PSP game can be beaten in eight hours or less. That is on the easiest setting, and blitzing through not looking for hidden items.

I was having problems with a certain boss in Ys The Oath in Felghana. After retrying a couple of times, the game asked me if I wanted to lower the difficulty setting. This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a video game. Ys The Oath in Felghana knows you are getting frustrated, and offers assistance to continue on the experience. The downside to Ys The Oath in Felghana is the mindless slaughter of who knows how many monsters. There are long periods between saves where I would hack and slash my way through. This does get old after awhile.

I expect many of my colleagues in the video game industry will comment on the role playing game cliches in Ys The Oath in Felghana. This is a remake of an older game, so I expect them. Players take on an evil, and save the locals. There are various characters in Ys The Oath in Felghana with different motives. This hand held game tries to be non-judgmental of some of them that did evil. The church has a role in Ys The Oath in Felghana, although not completely positive. Ys The Oath in Felghana will bring the Ys experience to an all new generation.
