Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound

Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound on the Nintendo DS is based on the characters from the television show Wizards of Waverly Place. This is a family of wizards who learn magical spells, and go on teenage mis-adventures. Werewolves, wizards, and more are shown in a very positive light on this show, and in this hand held game. Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound is one of the game that includes DGamer content.

The visuals in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound did not impress me. Not one bit. I could barely tell who the characters were while playing this Nintendo DS game. There are various colors used in the game, red being my favorite. Red was used when someone could catch you using magic. Not only are the characters in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound magicians, but they have to hide it from normal people. They are a secret society.

I caught the tune to the television show here and there while playing Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound. The bulk of the dialogue in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound is revolving around magic. Alex is on a mission to get the bottom of a fashion nightmare. There are various episodes in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound that go by very quickly. The special effect sounds in this DS game are okay.

The unlockable DGamer content is one of the saving graces for Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound. If you are a fan of the show, and constantly performing magic does not bother you then you will find your money well spent on Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound. I do feel like the length of the game is a little short, as it can be beaten in a few days.

The biggest reason Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound is so short is the game is giving clues on what to do next. There are not a lot of options anyways, but it made an easy game even easier. The game play consists of learning a new spell, coming across a problem (like how to get out of a room), and then using magic to solve it. This is repeated over and over again. Now there are multiple rooms after a spell is learned, but that just means finding the right magic spell for that particular situation.

Different families will respond to the magic in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound differently. Different reviewers here at Family Friendly Gaming come down differently as well. I may be coming down hard in the eyes of some people. I do have a problem with the consistent use of magic in Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound. I understand that is a large part of the show, and that is one of the reasons I do not watch it. Players pick spells from a wheel and only have to touch what they want the spell on. So I do not believe Wizards of Waverly Place Spellbound will teach anyone how to perform occult acts.
