Wii Fit Plus

Winter time is a great time for me to work on some exercise titles. Last issue Family Friendly Gaming crowned a new king of the exercise video games on the Wii. Does Nintendo have enough magic to get that title back with Wii Fit Plus? The short answer is no, however that does not mean this is a bad Wii game. It is a worthy sequel to Wii Fit. Nintendo tries some new things, although Wii Fit Plus feels more like an add on than an actual sequel.

Visually speaking I am thinking we are seeing the limits on the Wii. There are a lot of colors, and the island from Wii Sports Resort is evident in this game. There is more violent content in Wii Fit Plus than the original. Make a mistake while practicing Kung Fu, and a pot breaks over your head. Players can find numerous places to fall off ledges while doing the obstacle course. The segway course has the player popping beach balloons. The violence is mild, but still present.

Wii Fit Plus continues to be very positive and uplifting to player - for the most part. I question the BMI content included, which put my ideal weight way below what doctors have told me to be at. Wii Fit Plus celebrates the players accomplishments, and playing the mini games right. The really cool thing about Wii Fit Plus is it gets people thinking about improving their health.

Wii Fit Plus takes the original game, and adds quite a few new mini games. Some are yoga, some are aerobic, and some are balance. The balance games are much more video game related than the others. I was disappointed with how few new exercises there were.

The new training mode in Wii Fit Plus is really cool. I noticed that the new balance games are much more difficult than the original. This means they are not as approachable by many people as the original. Wii Fit Plus is fun to play, and it helps players get some exercise. Unfortunately for Nintendo other developers have taken the exercise ball, and ran with it. The phrase: “too little too late,” applies to Wii Fit Plus. I had fun playing this game, but have already gone back to EA Sports Active More Workouts.

Wii Fit Plus is very safe for families in many regards. I like how Nintendo has made a sequel to this franchise. This game feels like it can go one of two directions - more exercise, or more video game. I am not sure which direction Nintendo will take, or if they will keep it as is. They also need to add more content in future releases. Wii Fit Plus is a decent game, but there are better.
