Walk it Out

I remember when I first heard about Walk It Out, and pondered what kind of a game Konami was making. Walking around on the Wii was an interesting idea, but lets be blunt - how much fun could it be? Why not go outside and walk around? Well having bronchitis, and it being twenty something degrees outside made me appreciate Walk It Out on the Wii. Seeing what Konami did with the world you walk in made me appreciate this exercise game even more.

Graphically speaking Walk It Out is similar to Wii Sports. There are some nice graphics, and the world improves as the player unlocks content. The details on many of the characters is not that greatest. Cows look better in the Harvest Moon games. I had to throw that in there. I found no offensive images while walking around the areas. There is some cartoon violence when playing the mini games. That is part of the reason the ESRB gave this game an E10+ rating.

The audio department of Walk It Out is really impressive. There are 120 songs in this Wii game. A lot of these songs make walking pass by much faster. This is the other area that earned this game its rating. Not all of the lyrics in Walk It Out are family friendly. I really wish this had been addressed so this game could have gotten an 'E' for Everyone rating. Thankfully any of the songs can be turned off in the options, which is why I am not coming down hard on Walk It Out. I turned off songs I did not like, and it improved my game play experience.

Almost everything in Walk It Out is unlockable. There are songs to be found, areas to unlock, and things like trees to be purchased. You can also purchase the buildings. All of this is based on the steps you have completed. There is also a nice little tracking system that Walk It Out has. I found myself playing longer than I anticipated, and had some sore feet following days. All because I wanted to unlock some additional content.

There are three ways to play Walk It Out. The first way is with the Wii Balance board. The second way is with the Dance Dance pad for the system. The third way is the with the Wii Remote, and Nunchuk. Put the Nunchuk in your pocket and get to walking. Walk It Out works well, and has an option to be forgiving. Every step earns a point, and points are what are used to purchase almost everything in this world. If you miss a step, then you lose a point. This can be turned off however. I should warn you to spend your points while playing Walk It Out, because once you save/quit you lose existing steps.

I had a really good time playing Walk It Out on the Wii. This game is so close to being upper echelon for the Wii. A few minor tweaks in a sequel, and yes I would like to see a sequel could get this franchise there. I like the option of turning off the songs that bothered us. I just wish they had not been there in the first place. It would have been cool to be able to adjust songs while I was walking. I like how Walk It Out gets gamers off the couch and getting physical exercise. There are more intense exercise games out there, but this is a great entrance to exercise.
