Transformers Cybertron Adventures
SCORE: 65
I am very grateful to have been given a reviewable copy of
Transformers Cybertron Adventures on the Wii to play and review.
Transformers Cybertron Adventures is sort of a rails shooter with
vehicle portions. Part of the level is shooting robots on the other
side, hiding behind cover, and then shooting them some more. Once they
are all gone, your robot will run to the next area where the same thing
is done. In the middle of levels are sections where your Transformer
goes into vehicle mode and you drive/fly to the next destination. All of
this is controlled and you can not deviate very far from the path.
The visuals in Transformers Cybertron Adventures made me feel like I was
on Cybertron in the middle of a war zone. The Wii does not have the best
graphics so I noticed certain things that lacked details. Many of the
enemy robots look exactly the same, which made me wonder exactly how
many Transformers there were before the war. The violence is the biggest
issue with Transformers Cybertron Adventures. You are constantly
shooting other robots. Some puzzle elements would have broken it up
better in my opinion.
The running dialogue in Transformers Cybertron Adventures is really
cool. Characters are talking, giving directions, advice, etc. The
communications in Transformers Cybertron Adventures is some of the best
I have seen in a video game in a very long time. Autobots are all about
helping people, but the Decepticons are all about their own power. This
Wii game lets you play both sides which gives more of the storyline.
Unfortunately having to play the bad guys did not fit my personality.
There are some unlockables in Transformers Cybertron Adventures. My
biggest disappointment with this game is how easily it can be beaten.
Most gamers will be able to rent Transformers Cybertron Adventures for a
weekend and beat both sides storyline. It will take a little longer to
get all the unlockable content though. Transformers Cybertron Adventures
contains a two player co-op mode as well.
The first few levels of Transformers Cybertron Adventures were actually
fun. After that, the constant monotony of hiding behind cover, shooting
some, hiding behind cover got to me. I really enjoyed the driving
portions of levels, and the flying levels were okay. Transformers
Cybertron Adventures follows a pattern that gets old really quick. The
main spice comes from parts of levels that require the player complete
something in a specific amount of time. Protecting Iron Hide while he
downloaded data was one of ways this Wii game tried to spice up the
repetitive nature of the game play. The presentation of the war zone in
Transformers Cybertron Adventures is top notch.
I can sum Transformers Cybertron Adventures up by saying you are a robot
blowing up other robots. Since both sides of the story are told it
really blurs the lines of who is good and who is evil. Both are blowing
the other away, and both are trying to end the conflict. I had trouble
distinguishing the sides, until I paid real close attention to the voice
acting. Then it became much clearer. Fans of Transformers will recognize
many of the voices in Transformers Cybertron Adventures. Any sequels
need some diversity in the game play.
