Toy Story 3Toy Story 3

My kids were very excited when Toy Story 3 on the Xbox 360 came in thanks to our friends at Disney Interactive Studios. This movie based home console game has a lot of wonderful things going for it. First off there are Buzz levels that are exactly what fans of the franchise have wanted. The same can be said for the Woody levels. Toy Story 3 follows the movie plot lines, so you get quite a bit.

The visuals in Toy Story 3 are as good as the movies. I really could not tell the difference. The animation is the same, and the characters look the same. In fact anyone who likes the Toy Story franchise will enjoy looking at Toy Story 3. The one drawback to this game is most of the levels for Buzz. This is where Toy Story 3 earns its E10+ rating. The levels have you blowing up a lot of rocks, and robots. Thankfully the violence is broken up giving the game a much more interesting pace. Woody's levels are much better in my opinion.

If you are familiar with the voice actors from the movies then you will feel right at home in Toy Story 3. The songs, voices, and special effect sounds work masterfully in this home console game. I enjoyed listening to the music on loading screens, and noticed little things like that. Get near a certain toy in a level and they will say things. The audio in Toy Story 3 is top notch.

Beating one level unlocks the next one. There are various checkpoints within a level, along with multiple missions. The story mode unfolds on a game board which fits the theme quite well. There is also a fun Woody Round Up game that includes a ton of unlockable content. In fact that could have been its own game because of how much content there is. The story mode can be a bit short, especially for experienced gamers.

I had very few problems with the controls in Toy Story 3. There were times I would forget what button does what, but the game is nice enough to flash a reminder on the screen. I had some minor issues here and there with Buzz's laser. I found myself taking hits trying to line the "bad" robots up. What got my noodle later is there are very few areas where all the enemies have to be destroyed. There are quite a few where it makes hitting a certain switch easier, but not required.

Toy Story 3 is a collage of content that tries to reach all ages of the family. There are all kinds of different missions. I realized that Disney Interactive Studios has a lot of different kinds of toys to work with, so it makes sense. I enjoyed playing Toy Story 3, and would like to see sequels in the future. The violence in the levels for Buzz can get explosive. Parents will want to verify that before letting their children go wild.
