Toy Story 3

Woody and Buzz have come a long way over the years. I feel honored to have been given a reviewable copy of Toy Story 3 for the Nintendo DS. This hand held video game follows the movie through some of the major plot lines. At least that is my assumption since I have not had the pleasure of seeing Toy Story 3 yet. Andy is going to college, and has outgrown his toys. They head to a day care where they will be played with.

The diversity of the graphics in Toy Story 3 is exceptional. You get to play as various characters in various kinds of levels. The vehicle levels are my favorites. Getting to race through lengthy areas trying to reach the end without crashing is a lot of fun. The animation of the characters in Toy Story 3 is very realistic. They look like the toys, only a lot smaller. The details in Toy Story 3 is good for a Nintendo DS game. I can tell that Disney Interactive Studios was squeezing every ounce of power out of that machine.

There are some fun sound bytes in Toy Story 3. You get to hear some lines recited by your favorite characters. These sound bytes are well placed and never get stale. At least they do not get stale for me. Self worth and value are some of the lessons Toy Story 3 discusses. I did not hear any offensive sounds while playing this Nintendo DS video game. I really enjoyed the music and special effect sounds in Toy Story 3.

There is a lot of DGamer content in Toy Story 3. I found myself unlocking things quite often. In some ways it felt like earning achievements which is fine. The length of the story mode will keep kids busy for a few weeks. Then they can dig into the mini games, and replay their favorites. Toy Story 3 is a real collage of various games. These range from a tower defense to 3D exploration.

I had a lot of fun playing Toy Story 3 on the Nintendo DS. Disney Interactive Studios put together a fantastic hand held game. The top screen has directions on the exploration levels so you always know what to do next. Children may need a parent to read the directions to them, but it will not frustrate anyone. The controls are good, and easy to master.

Toy Story 3 is exactly what a movie based game on the hand held needs to be. It is relevant to the source material, and lets the player do all kinds of different things. There are a lot of things to find, and great characters to interact with. Something I realized near the end of Toy Story 3 is how non violent it is. There are some smashing of things, but the goal is never to hurt others. I find this to be a great trend, and would like to see more in the future.
