Toy Story 2
SCORE: 90
Sequels have a lot to live up to. A revolutionary movie like Toy
Story set the bar very high for Toy Story 2. I could not see any way
Pixar Studios could top the original. Actually I could not see any way
they could make it as good. Well they matched it in ways I was not
expecting. Woody learns about his past, and has to choose being a toy
for Andy or revered in a museum. Disney has released this movie on
Blu-ray. The package we received had both the Blu-ray disc and the DVD
disc.
The visuals in Toy Story 2 are just as good, if not better than the
original. The toys look fantastic, and the new ones fit the theme of
this movie perfectly. Toys get in some sticky situations, and there is
some peril in various points of the movie. Children enjoy Toy Story 2,
and are thrilled at how they move around in the real world (editor: so
to speak).
The exceptional voice acting continues in Toy Story 2. I really enjoy
hearing them work the emotions of the toys. I did not find any catch
phrases that could be used as sound bytes, but that is okay. Toy Story 2
is lot more adventurous than the first one, and there is a completely
different theme. Woody learns there is more to his past, and chooses
service over being served.
Toy Story 2 has a lot of bonus features. The sneak peak for Toy Story 3
really caught my eye. Another stand out extra is the Pixar Zoetrope. I
am not clear exactly how it works, but it is really cool. I know Paul
really liked the Studio Stories in Toy Story, but I was not impressed
with them in Toy Story 2. The feature about that gentleman who has
passed on was really interesting too.
Some of the words on menu screens can be small. I moved closer to the
screen to be able to see some of them. The story in Toy Story 2 is a
good one for families that open up different topics of discussion. I can
tell that Woody struggled over his decision, and even changed his mind.
I had fun watching Toy Story 2, as did children who watched it with me.
We do a lot of comparisons in life and here at Family Friendly Gaming. I
enjoyed Toy Story 2, and it teaches a lesson about choosing service over
being served. Toy Story 2 also has someone choose who they will wind up
helping. These are wonderful lessons in my opinion. When I set Toy Story
beside Toy Story 2, I have to give a slight edge to Toy Story. Toy Story
2 does make me very interested in seeing Toy Story 3 though.
