The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks

The Legend of Zelda has been one of the more controversial franchises of recent years. The franchise took a dark turn on the Wii. The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks is the second Nintendo DS video game that takes the franchise in a different direction. Trains are the main themes of this Zelda game. The technology has increased to the locomotive. This feels weird at first, but Nintendo was able to pull it off. The princess helps Link this time, but not in the way you would think.

The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks has a similar look and feel to it as the previous Zelda DS video game (Phantom Hourglass). There is violence as Link will blow up, throw things at, and slash with his sword. The little monsters, and large bosses are the recipients of this ruthless aggression. They usually stand in the players way. Some rooms require the player kill all before being able to progress. Contact with spirits is also routine in this hand held video game.

Zelda gets separated from her body, and possess objects in order to help Link progress through the game. There is a lot of talk of spirits, and a dark figure from the past possessing her body. This is some very freaky stuff, and exceptionally odd for a Legend of Zelda video game. The music is classic tunes that fans of the franchise will recognize. This is an area that could use some fresh sounds in this reviewers opinion.

Multiple dungeons and multiple hidden sidequests are there to be found. Oddly The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks feels a little too short to this reviewer. In fact playing through the main storyline can be done in under ten hours. This will disappoint hard core Zelda fans. There are some multiplayer modes that can keep things fresh for a little while longer.

Standard Legend of Zelda puzzles are found in The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. To be honest there are not a lot of new concepts in this Nintendo DS game. The whole possessed armor may look new, but team work has been a part of this franchise for a very long time. The RPG Master had fun playing this game, but it was short lived.

The spiritual aspect of The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks is the most troubling part of this game. This reviewer hopes and prays that Nintendo does not continue this franchise in this direction. Possession is a serious spiritual problem that should not taken lightly, nor handled in such a manner. The train mechanics are welcome in sequels.
