The Daring Game for Girls

The Daring Game for Girls, based on the popular “The Daring Book for Girls”, is a fun and entertaining game girls of all ages will enjoy. Majesco does a great job of combining interactive gameplay along with trivia and adventure in The Daring Game for Girls.

At the beginning of the game, the player will be able to choose the character they would like to use for their adventure. Once the character is chosen, the player will meet a friend that introduces them to the gameplay and how to get started.

The goal of the game is to gather, create, play, sell and interact within the environment. As these activities are completed badges are earned. Once enough badges have been earned, the character can go on a special trip – such as sailing down the Amazon. Players have their own workshop where items can be made in order to sell for making money. Money can be earned and then be used to buy additional items to make more things to sell. One thing to keep in mind is that the goal in not just to make money for the sake of making money. Some of the characters in the game are shy, and in order for them to open up to your character, you need to make them a friendship bracelet. In order to do so, money must be earned in order to buy supplies to make the bracelets. The player can then go make friends and earn badges for their reaching out to others.

There are a lot of activities and badges to earn to keep gamers busy for some time. I spent almost an hour making and selling lemonade, and playing basketball and soccer. Gamers will enjoy the variety of the activities. The game provides facts and quotes from famous women during the loading screen. These can get repetitive at times, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, as they are used during the various trivia portions of the game. So, pay attention during the load screen and get extra points on the trivia games.

The soundtrack is perfect for the adventure theme of the game, and the graphics are nice for the DS. There is nothing that will blow you away, but that is not the strong point or focus of this title. Majesco focused on providing a strong gameplay, and they were successful.

Only a few issues I had with The Daring Game for Girls - one being the absence of a map. It would have been great to have a map on the top screen of the DS, instead of a blue sky with clouds. Granted, it does not take long to find your way around the town and other areas, but a small and simple map would have been a nice touch. Secondly, there were some instances where the stylist was not responsive in the gameplay (when playing sports games), but the longer I played the easier it became. So exhibit some patience when fine tuning your stylist skills in this game.

Overall, The Daring Game for Girls is a great game, and I would recommend to any family with elementary or preteen girls. Actually, I could see moms getting into this as well if they like the DS. I liked the way friendship and reaching out to others was encouraged. Also, basic money management skills are learned in order to be successful at earning badges.

Nice job Majesco.
