The Biggest Loser Challenge

I’ll admit that I was not quite as excited about this game as I am about some of the others that I get to review. I was pleasantly surprised when the Biggest Loser Challenge turned out to be a fun and motivational way to exercise and move toward a healthier lifestyle. Based on the popular TV weight loss program, the Biggest Loser Challenge brings the workout right into your home.

The Biggest Loser Challenge possesses simple graphics, but it does a great job with the animations of the trainers who will guide you through your workout routine. While it can be difficult at times to discern exactly what you’re supposed to be doing, I found the movements of the trainers to be about as good as what you would get in any traditional workout video. The attire of the female trainer was a little on the skimpy side though much more modest than what you’re likely to see in a gym or a workout video. Players will likely be too busy trying to keep up with the workout routine to pay attention to what the trainers are wearing in any case.

The motivation you’ll receive from your in-game personal trainer is fantastic. Everything they say as they instruct you is uplifting and will challenge you to do better. If your trainer detects that you’re not trying (by way of the Wii motion controls) you will be challenged not to give up and encouraged to persevere. The workout instructions for each exercise are clear and easy to hear. I found the background music to be uninspiring and a little too much on the relaxing side for my taste.

The Biggest Loser Challenge has virtually endless replay value. If you choose to make this game part of your workout routine, you can use it over and over again. The game also features a competitive gameplay mode that you can use to challenge others in your family. The Biggest Loser Challenge features healthy living tips and also healthy recipes. The game has over 50 recipes encompassing breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks to help you on your way to an overall healthier way of life.

The gameplay of the Biggest Loser Challenge tries to make use of the Wii motion controls as best as it can. As with other Wii titles it is also fairly easy to fool this game. The problem I had was that I couldn’t be sure I was doing the exercise correctly at times because the game was improperly responding to my movements. Another challenge I found was trying to switch the Wii remote from one hand to the other in the time allotted. For certain exercises you must attach the remote and strap to your right wrist and then switch it to the left half-way through. This is all fine and well but the game gives you only a matter of seconds to do this before the exercise continues on. With practice you can perfect this, but it is still cumbersome to fumble with the wrist strap during the middle of an exercise. The exercises in the game are great and provide great variation. You can choose to setup a personalized fitness program or choose from one of ten preset programs designed to focus on particular areas of the body. The game offers great flexibility in the ways you want to work out and the amount of time you want to commit to it.

This game is a great way to get the whole family working together toward a healthier lifestyle. It can be used to encourage friendly weight loss competition with each other and discover new ways to exercise together. There’s no offensive content here to worry about making the game safe to play for all ages. As with any exercise game you should always use caution when working out so not as to exceed your limitations. The Biggest Loser Challenge offers many warnings and tips to guide you into choosing the right program for your fitness level. It is also advisable that when exercising you keep a safe distance between yourself, your furniture, other family members, and the dog.
