The Amazing Race

When I first heard about The Amazing Race on the Wii, I was all over it. Our amazing contacts over at Ubisoft were more than happy to send us a reviewable copy of this television based video game. The most important thing about The Amazing Race on the Wii is this is for two or four players. Ingenious players can play this game by themselves but it is really designed for two or four.

The Amazing Race takes us to an abundant amount of different locales. The pictures of these different locations is awesome. I really enjoyed seeing the cityscape of these diverse locations. The various mini games do not look as good, but they are decent looking. There is some cartoon violence in some of the mini games in The Amazing Race. Things like throwing tomatoes at people who are also trying to hit you. Thankfully most of the mini games are educational.

The Amazing Race is hosted by Phil Keoghan on the Wii. He has some great memorable one liners in this home console video game. To me they are just sound bytes, but they bring something to the table. The music in The Amazing Race is tense, which fits the theme of this game. I was eager to win this game, and there is a lot of suspense included in The Amazing Race when results are posted.

There are few games I can think of that encourage two or more people to play at the same time. The Amazing Race does this, and it is nice to have to play with someone else. The Amazing Race brings at least one other person into the mix. There are varying lengths that teams can choose, and numerous videos to be unlocked. I really enjoyed watching those videos from the television show. The intensity of The Amazing Race is shocking.

This Wii game is broken into different parts. There is the travel phases, and the mini games. We never knew what would come up in the mini games. Some are for one player, some are for two players, some are against other teams, etc. The Amazing Race shakes things up quite well. The travel levels have you picking which mode of transportation to the next destination. This requires strategy because you only have so much money. I found some areas I would have to take a bus instead of a cab due to low funds. Remember that as you pick a plane. The other side of the coin is spending less money means you will make worse time. The last place team is eliminated at the end of each phase.

Choosing wisely is one of the lessons I gleaned from The Amazing Race on the Wii. There is also a smaller lesson in doing well in mini games, and knowing world trivia. Some of the questions in certain mini games were beyond my expertise. I did okay guessing at them though. I would really like to see sequels to The Amazing Race in the near future. It was my pleasure to be able to play and review The Amazing Race on the Wii. Fans of the show will find their money well spent on this home console version.
