Super Monkey Ball 2

I have been skeptical of the Iphone/Ipod Touch as a gaming platform for quite some time. As Family Friendly Gaming started to cover apps on the Apple machine, I kept thinking we were wasting our time. There have been some fun and interesting apps, however it did have the long term comfort of the Nintendo DS or Playstation Portable. Maybe I have been trained to accept certain things as game machines, and others as different pieces of technology. The lines have been blurring. Sega has shown me something serious with Super Monkey Ball 2. This platform can run fantastic games.

As I started to play Super Monkey Ball 2 I was expecting a Gameboy Advance version of graphics. I was in for a major shock, and surprise. Super Monkey Ball 2 on the Iphone/Ipod Touch looks amazing. This is the Super Monkey Ball we have grown to love and enjoy here at Family Friendly Gaming. The colors are awesome, and the monkeys are a real treat. I did not find any offensive images while playing Super Monkey Ball 2.

All of the classic Super Monkey Ball sounds are in Super Monkey Ball 2. The music has a real rockish feel that really gets the blood pumping. All of the special effect sounds like collecting a banana are there, and they sound great. Super Monkey Ball 2 is one of those apps that I can listen to and enjoy for quite a long time. I did not find any offensive sounds or language while playing Super Monkey Ball 2.

Super Monkey Ball 2 contains 115 levels. They start out pretty easy, but they can get pretty difficult in later levels. Sega could have stopped there, but they included multiplayer. Four people can get together and play any of the 115 levels together. Super Monkey Ball 2 also includes mini games. After all it would not be a Super Monkey Ball video game without a few right? Well Monkey Bowling, Monkey Golf, and Monkey Target are included. Super Monkey Ball 2 also gives the player the choice of one of four monkeys to play with.

One of the ways Super Monkey Ball 2 excels for me is the controls. There is a little guide on the screen to show how level you have the Iphone/Ipod Touch. You roll your monkey around by tilting the unit. This works amazingly well. The one issue I ran into was having to make some hard turns, and not being able to see the screen. I learned from my mistakes, and had a lot of fun playing Super Monkey Ball 2.

The Super Monkey Ball franchise has been generally family friendly over the years, and Super Monkey Ball 2 is no exception. I am very pleased to see Sega release this game, and hope they continue this franchise on this platform. I will be recommending Super Monkey Ball 2 to family, friends, and pastors that I personally know. Sega has created a fantastic game for families, and it was my honor to be able to review this game.
