Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions

Spider-Man has been one of the most iconic super heroes for almost 50 years. The web crawler has been impressive in comics, movies and cartoons. Unfortunately, over the last few years, video games have not been so kind to our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Activision hopes to turn the tide of recent so-so games with Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions brings a new twist to the Spider-Man gaming experience, as gamers will have to play as four different Spider-Man incarnations over four very distinct dimensions. The idea behind the story is really interesting, but does reach its potential during gameplay. Each Spider-Man had different fighting styles and environments to maneuver. The Amazing Spider-Man is the traditional web slinger. Ultimate Spider-Man uses the black suit and uses a rage tactic to fight large groups of enemies. Noir Spider-Man relies on hiding in the shadows and using stealth to survive and defeat enemies, while Spider-Man 2099 uses a new vision ability in battling enemies.

The presentation and graphics in Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is very well done. I really like the environments and how each dimension is presented in such a different manner. The detail in all aspects of the presentation is greatly appreciated. One of the first things Spider-Man fans will notice is the removal of the open New York City environment. Each level is finely crated and linear in design. I prefer this type of game design in a Spider-Man game, because the designers can focus more on gameplay and making the environments that are available more detailed and better looking.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions does suffer from some of the same gameplay bugs that have plagued Spider-Man games for years. These include a spotty camera system that can leave gamers frustrated during battle. The fighting sequences do get repetitive, but some of that is alleviated by the various styles presented in the four different dimensions. Overall, the gameplay is fun and Spider-Man fans will really Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is rated Teen for violence, mild suggestive themes and mild language. Parents should consider the rating and understand this game is not for younger gamers. I suggest parents to play through some Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions with their kids and discuss some of these things with them. Parents will be able to address crude humor, violence, saving people among other issues.

As both a Spider-Man and video game fan, I really enjoyed playing through Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. Even with the old bugs, the new additions add enough to make this worth the price of admission. Spider-Man fans will enjoy the different dimensions and even the presentation of different villains. The boss fights and cut scenes are fantastic and will keep Spidey fans coming back for multiple plays. Activision did a great job of providing a fresh Spider-Man experience, and I look forward to seeing how they continue to improve the Spider-Man gaming experience in future titles.
