Sonic and the Black Knight

Sonic and the Black Knight is an interesting sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sonic gets transported back to the time of King Arthur. King Arthur is the bad guy and Sonic must save the land. Expect to find plenty of Sonic characters in this Wii title. Shadows, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and more make appearances. Sonic and the Black Knight has the same feel to it as the first game. Sonic goes running fast straight into levels. There are specific missions, and many levels are played through multiple times.

The graphics in Sonic and the Black Knight are decent. The cut scene movies are artistically done in some instances, and storybook like in others. The levels look good, and the characters animate as I would expect them to. Sonic has a sword in Sonic and the Black Knight, and he uses it to disband enemies. The action is so fast at times I did not even see my character hitting an enemy.

I believe in putting your best foot forward. Sonic and the Black Knight does this. The first thing you encounter in this Wii game is the rockish music. I am not a fan of this style of music. Even I have to admit it is really good. The music in Sonic and the Black Knight got me pumped up, and ready to race through levels. There is some humor in Sonic and the Black Knight as well. Fans of the series will notice it in various parts of the story.

Sega had me unlocking so many things I was expecting to find the kitchen sink. There is a ton of content in Sonic and the Black Knight. This ranges from images to movies, to usable items in the game. Multiple levels will keep most gamers busy for weeks. I feel like my money was well spent on Sonic and the Black Knight. Yes I spent my own money on this game.

There are areas of Sonic and the Black Knight that are confusing. Especially in some of the tutorial style levels. One example is to end with a certain attack. I ended the level twenty times with it, and it only told me I failed. I eventually had someone tell me to do the attack in the level when the game said to do it. After a couple of tries, and draining that power bar I completed the level. Aside from that, I had fun playing Sonic and the Black Knight. The whole sword thing brought in another character, but detracted from the game play in my book.

Sega tried some different things with Sonic and the Black Knight. I feel like it is a half step back. Saving the kingdom from an evil King Arthur just does not feel right. I could see helping out the king, or coming after the king’s death, etc. The whole followers bar was a strange addition to the franchise as well.
